Nvidia buying ULI!!!!

big companies buy little companies all the time....get over it.

volkswagen bought bugatti............and look what happened, the veyron *splooges*

look even ATI were considering buying ULI (according to INQ)....way i see it one of them was going to buy ULI at some point. ATI had ULI as a back up if for their SB southbridges, the ULI chips were pin compatible with the ATI boards.

if nvidia didnt buy them, i reckon ATI would of eventually bought them.....so that leaves us in the same scenario. though i suspect some people would be singing a different tune if ATI had bought them out

While I agree with most if not all the point made about nV buying a competitor being "bad", but honestly, how many of you really actually planned on buying a ULi-chipset based motherboard?

I have one and was very interested in the M1697 that AT did a write up on.

There are many good chipset engineers at ULi, so this can do nothing but good for NVIDIA's nForce series I imagine. That said, it's not like there are no more competitors left in this market; you've Intel, VIA, SiS, and ATi, in addition to NVIDIA.

I dont like it either. Once more I was thrilled to see a liitle guy squeez the hell of the the big boy's balls, and forcing it(Nvedia) think twice overpricing their boards.
Unfortunately the thrill is over and we are back in square one- unreasonable and overpriced nvedia boards.
If venice 3000 could overclock to 2766 (307x9, 1:1 ) stable as she goes w/ stock HSF(less than 49c full load), no wonder nvedia panicked.
see my result below:

So, what would nvedia name their new boads? "Uliforce" or "paymemore" boards?

That's capitalism at its best.
I have a new definition for capitalism: elite monarchy, or " newfound feudalism", run by "golden rule" : whoever got the gold rules.
The gap between rich and poor has widen so enormously creating the clash of civilization, religion, and class of people. no wonder so much ethnic, racial and religious hate exist in the world today. I blame it directly to greed= the main ingredient of capitalism.

And we just read an article on lack of SLI support for ULI base boards!!!!

So where does that put ATI?? Is there any news on AMD's or Microsoft's acquisition of ATI??

This is really bad news and a sad day. I am really disapointed that a buyout like this is going to take place. It just shows how poorly of a competitor nvidia really is. If you cant beat them buy them. nVIDIA just does not want to be seen as a second place company. They are afraid of developing an Inferiority complex.

NVIDIA YOU SIUCK JUST LIKE MICROSOFT DOES!

It's all the fanboys who are clearly in favor of this buy out. It will only benefit nVIDIA and not the consumer.
the only logic behind this buyout was because nvedia saw a threat, not just a competition, IMO. There are others competing w/ nvedia but none were threats. proves that Uli was into something big and nvedia cleverly killed it. Those at ULi failed to realize this. bad for ULi, bad for technology, and bad for consumer.
