NVidia blocks 4-way SLI with 780s. Do they do the same thing with Titans?

Exaggerate much? For the record, I stated myself that Nvidia shouldn't lock people out, but considering how poorly 4-Way scales anyway it isn't THAT big of a deal.

/Getting one 780 is one thing, buying four to run 4-Way SLI is another thing entirely...

Perhaps you are right about the scaling part, it isn't a huge difference anyways, but my big problem with this is that they did this retroactively and now, to my understanding at least, something they advertised no longer works. To me this is atrocious.

Not the first time that they've pulled this, either. Remember mixed-card PhysX?

Am I understanding this correctly? NV never advertised quad SLI working on the 780. In fact, they advertised a maximum of Tri-SLI. They were upfront about quad SLI requiring Titans from the get-go, it was never advertised for the 780. In fact, Quad SLI has always been selective about which SKUs did and didn't work - it generally only worked on the most high end SKU for a given generation. .

That said, EVGA did make a mistake on one batch of their GTX 780 boxes which said "quad sli" but nvidia had nothing to do with that. EVGA made the error and Jacob Freeman posted apologies about it.

If I misunderstood your meaning, my mistake.

My take on it, given how poor 4-Way scales...is that going 4-Way SLI is about as silly as Nvidia is for blocking it :p

are you seeing instances of the vram limitation that need to be overcome? what is the cost of 3GB wholesale ram that is that fast?

There was one article showing that going from 3 GB to 6 GB improved performance for multi-monitor setups in a couple of games (can't remember who did that review, atm). But really, this will just be a way to extract money from high end enthusiast's wallets - IMHO.

Yep, that's correct, 4 way SLI does work with 780ti's. IT also works with the Titan. Not sure of the reason for restriction, but if someone is spending that much dough on 4 GPUs they're probably going for 780ti's or titans anyway..

So, an extra $800 to $2000 dollars, for what reason exactly? Why not 4x 780's?

Segmenting is used basically everywhere by those who can. AMD does it as well.

You are right, and it is a pitty. Still crappy IMO.

I did not know that it was not advertised with 780s, i thought most of their cards with the dual SLI connectors could do it. Thanks for the correction. This does not change my negative view of them coding it out.

Yeah, only idiots go 4-Way SLI.

I see what you did there.....

So, when is the 4 way Titan vs 4 Way 290x benching going to be released? Another user has a 4 way 290x system coming. There should be a battle thread.
