The memory configuration isn't surprising, but it's still strange to see the 3060 with more VRAM than the 3080 but barely 40% of the shaders.

The first Ampere card with decent VRAM aside from the 3090.

Puts the rest to absolute shame. Imagine paying $700 + markup for a 3080, then seeing a card less than half the price have 20% more VRAM. o_O

I am expecting a smidge slower than the 2070 if not equal to it. Question is, will it ever be in stock? I know people who will be after this particular card & will be asking me to get it for them.

2070S or vanilla? Even with the reduced bus width I'd be surprised if it didn't handily beat a 2070. The 3060 Ti already compares well to a 2080 Super, and the 2070 only has 2/3rds of the FLOPs of the 2080S while the 3060 is supposed to have 79% of the FLOPs of the 3060Ti.

I am thinking it will fall between the 2070 and 2070S.

Assuming it's ~20% slower than the 3060ti, which itself is slightly faster than the 2080S, then the 3060 will land right on top of the 2070S.

Under normal circumstances I'd applaud the realignment in Price to Performance at the low end, but the S seems to be the only letter that matters in MSRP these days...

Yea, my bad there with a slight typo, meant to put the S in there.

No news about the 3080ti. They may have figured there is no reason to release it with the 3090 selling out at $2000+ everywhere.

Good upgrade for 1060 owners although it maybe be priced out of the sweet spot range for lot of people. $200-250 has always been the mainstream segment and people will have to wait for 3050Ti

Not sure I would say that has always been the mainstream segment. There was a time where $200 was the high end. But for a good part of the twenty teens it has been the mainstream price point with cards like the RX480 and GTX1060.

The 970 was $330 and it was one of the most popular mainstream cards of its era, so I think the 3060 at $330 will do well. It shouldn't have a problem with anything at 1080p and the 12 GB of VRAM should put any worries about future performance to rest.

Im not expecting that most buyers will care to much about RT performance so if it's barely passable or even substandard, it won't affect sales. There will likely be a cut down due to slot into the $200 - $300 market segment, but don't expect more than 6 GB on those.

The NE GPU page today looks straight out of 2011 or even older, a 3850 AGP for 399, a GTX 285 for 249...for heaven's sake this cannot be a permanent situation.

- To be fair older cards and components in general suffer their own special form of price distortion because someone who is looking for those parts really needs it for some weird specific task (needs to replace an OEM part in a business PC and the BIOS is hardcoded for that part or some enthusiast trying to put together a bizarre retro build or something else).

For example, someone running some ancient office management PC that only has an AGP port cannot afford the downtime of trying to make whatever ancient custom software work with a new PC, but their GPU died. Buy a $400 AGP 3850 or potentially have to spend tens of thousands of dollars and countless hours rebuilding their entire customer inventory/database/CRM Software so it works with Windows 10 and brand new PC hardware?

Its remarkable how many smaller/smallish businesses find themselves in that weird pickle.

3060 was what I had in mind. But looking at the markups for the current cards if this is over $350, I would either go with the 3050Ti or just hold off for another year and build a new PC.
