nVidia and Slackware question - help?

Folks, I am running Slack 9 and when I try to install the latest nVidia drivers for the Geforce, I get the error that it can't find a precompiled module and needs the source code. No biggy, already installed it. Then while it's building it gives me an error that it can't find nvidia.o
I've looked in the /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/video and there is, in fact, not a single reference to Geforce or nVidia at all. This puzzles me, since I KNOW I've set xf86config to use the "nv" driver which, correct me if I am wrong, is an nVidia driver.
Anyway, any help is appreciated.

Uhm, help?
Also, another question: I'm using a Linksys LNE100-TX LAN card, but when I try to get Slack to recognize it it says there's no card on the system. I know it's seated correctly, and it works with the tulip.o module, so what gives?
