Im offered 2x,2xQ,4x,8xS in antialiasing settings int he cp. Is this the same as transparency AA settings, multisampling or supersampling? How do i enable supersampling AA in games? do i set 4x in the antialising section, then enable supersampling, or should i just enable none in antialiasing section and select supersampling? Which one of these gives the least performance hit/best results?

you can use msaa/ssaa with any of the selected AA modes (2x-8xs), to enable msaa or ssaa in the CP click on Transparency antiliasing and select either multi-or-supersampling.

there is virtually no performance loss when enabling msaa but with a only a slight increase in IQ, but there is a performance penalty for applying ssaa, with the result of better IQ.

would 2xMSAA be equal or better than 4xAA? Maybe 2xSSAA? What AA setting would you select in game since the AA options are already forced in the CP, none or to match whats already selected in the CP?

http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/geforce_7900_gtx/page_7.shtml

the link doesn't show the effect of 2x msaa/ssaa compared to 4aa sorry about that, but there is a review that is more in depth, just can't remember which one...

as far as your in game settings, you could set the "Antialiasing settings" in CP to application controlled and leave msaa/ssaa selected, and adjust your AA settings within the in game options...this is the method i usually prefer.

2xQ is Quincux, an nvidia proprietary method that mixes SSAA and MSAA to acheive near 4xAA quality without the huge performance hit.

Thx guys for all the feedback, i understand how to apply the MSAA and SSAA, but im confused on which to pick still. I mostly used to play with 4xAA, is there any kind of quincux AA or Transparency AA applied to anything, that could give me the same performance as 4xAA with better results? Which would be the most reasonable to use with my card?

Edit: I understand newer games wont let me do this, im mainly talking about source games, and quake 4.
