Nvidia 980 ti / 980 price reductions due to Fury competition

not enough to justify the price difference, also the 980 is a nicer OC card.

You buy a 980 then, because it is slower whether you want to believe it or not. I'll also take the HBM on Fury and the 8GB on the 390X for a similar amt. less than the 980 is to Fury.

Even at $480, the 980 is a poor value. 390X is a poor value at $429 too.

At 1080p - 970, R9 390, or 290X are the better buys. You simply aren't going to see much of a performance increase that would really change the gameplay experience by getting a 980 or 390X.

At 1440p or above, it's worth stepping up to a 980 Ti or Fury X before getting either of those cards.

From what I've seen of regular Fury, at stock it still matches a 980 OC'd unless you pit it against GameWorks enabled titles.

If my Zotac drops to $630 you can bet your rear-end I'll be contacting Newegg for a price match! Do they even do that anymore or did they ferret that behind Premier services?

Reading this forum you would think AMD is not competitive at all.. so why the price drops?

Perhaps AMD is correct, there is a premium for water cooling. After seeing the CF v SLI reviews, if I were to build a 4K rig, I would definitely go water cooled Fury X over any air 980Ti. They are already beating OC 980Ti models (open bench best case scenario) in CF v SLI, once vcore mod is available, the gap only widens.

I imagine sales of the GTX 980 are sluggish due to the launch of the GTX 980 Ti as much as Fury/X.

$500 is still pretty expensive for a video card to most people. Once you get to that level card, saving up an additional $150 or so really makes sense to get a significantly faster card.

The GTX 980 has slid down to the ranks of the upper mid range, and should be priced accordingly - closer to the GTX 970 than the 980 Ti or Fury X.

They dropped 980Ti prices too.

Wouldn't do it unless they see a threat to sales.

AMD needs to step up and counter. Fury at $499. Fury X at $599. When volume is capable, currently its sold out so prices should remain the same.

390X needs to come down to $399 and 390 at $299 and we can return to more sane prices in the mid-range!

Guess it was either a quick sale or what error:

MSI GTX 980Ti 6GD5 V1 GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support ATX Video Card
$649.99

GTX 980 Ti back to $650. It was the only card showing <$650 at the time too. Egg Deal? /shrugs

EDIT: Did they even verify with NV or they just saw one card on sale and ran with it?

When I bought my Zotac it was EDIT: Twas $650 (need more sleep) with $10 Gift Card.

You must be tired. They said it was the AIB's that dropped the prices, not nVidia.

I saw that click bait article on wccftech.

One card had somewhat of a discount, and the headline was GTX 980 Ti dropping prices because of fury. 🙄

This is always a possibility. A couple of sales and WCCFtech seizes the opportunity. Although it could be a beloved patriot in the armor.

The only leg up AMD had ( if that because they priced FuryX and Fury too high ) has eroded. I think Nvidia just wanted to remove the last possible reason to buy AMD. They want the rest of the market. They want that last 20+%.

Sounds like wccftech alright. That they even get a single hit only shows whats wrong.
