nvidia 9600GSO 384meg vs 8800GTS 320meg

i recently had an rma for my video card, and they are sending me a 9600GSO 384meg to replace my 8800GTS 320meg which isn't made anymore. can someone tell me if that's actually a bump up? or did they just downgrade me?

It is about equal in terms of performance. The 9600GSO is actually a tad faster but not enough to notice.

I use to own one and it comes in very close to my 9800GT in games that dont require the extra ram. It is a very nice card and I would easily take the card as an exchange.

imo the 8800gts is faster, it has more rop's i believe and much more memory bandwidth. Is your rma with evga by any chance?

XFX. according to the previous message on the ticket a tech was supposed to call me to finalize the rma. 10 days pass and i just see another message saying they are shipping back to me now. of course the way they worded it, it looked as if they were sending my broken card back. i called them and the rep said a 9600GSO PVTSDF card is being sent back to me. looking around i can't tell if its SDF4, SDFH, or what now. but just wanted to make sure they aren't sending me a downgraded card. well, not like i have any say anymore. the tech never called me to finalize the rma.

did a little searching and so far this is what i gather about the card. the top one i think are the stats, as there are slight variations depending where you look. the bottom one is the card i sent in and replaced.

XFX PV-T960-SDF4/SDFH

GPU Clock: 580 Mhz
Memory Bus: 192
Memory Type: DDR2
Memory Size: 768 MB (or 384?)
Memory Speed: 1000 Mhz
Stream Processors: 96

XFX PV-T80G-GHE4

GPU Clock: 580 Mhz
Memory Bus: 320
Memory Type: DDR3
Memory Size: 320 MB
Memory Speed: 1700 Mhz
Stream Processors: 96

9600GSO will overclock nicely. At least, my three do. Two of em do 702/1620/1900 and the third is just a tad lower. All at stock volts. At that level they're about equal to a stock 9800GT.

The 384mb Card only comes in GDDR3 Flavor from XFX. The 768mb card is the GDDR2 Version which is a tad slower.

And like the poster above me said, these things overclock nicely.
