Alright....here is the deal.

I have a Gigabyte GA-E7AUM-DS2H with an integrated nVidia 9400 gpu (http://tinyurl.com/575lpm)

Now, i'm still saving up to maybe buy a GTX 4xx

now, is the GT210 ( http://tinyurl.com/29vwuff )
enough of an upgrade to play MW2? I get a decent FPS with the 9400 on med/high settings, but nothing too great.

I was hoping i could get some thoughts to whether its worth it. i'm technically upgrading from one low-end card, to another low end of the next generation.

All input is appreciated :)

*i tinyurl'd the sites because something is wrong with the forums when it comes to newegg links

Thank you

you could have spent about 2 minutes on google to find out that a gt210 is no better your current 9400. they both have 16sp and are not really good for modern gaming. you will need at least a gt240 to play modern games.

Even the GT 210 isn't new on the block, either.

You need to wait until the end of the month when the low end Fermi cards are announced (GF106, GF 108) and then upgrade. There should probably hard launch availability in early September.

if you are OK with your built-in gpu, a GT240 would probably be a sufficient upgrade without having to save up for a $200 card. What resolution are you using?

GF106 and 108 are coming out soon, but I wouldn't expect them to be cheap. Even the GT240 was almost $100 when it came out (gddr5 version) and now you can get it for about $40 after rebate. They go on sale a lot.

I'm eying this card out at the moment:

http://tinyurl.com/2frtskd

HD 5670-128bit-1GB-DDR5

Which brings me to another question...since my MOBO supports Hybrid SLI...would it be better to get an nvidia card?

Also, thanks for link edplayer. I won't have the money until atleast tuesday, so it seems i might miss the chance to get the rebate. we'll see, and even for 70 bucks, thats not a bad card. Also, if you're asking about resolutions. I play MW2 on 1024*768 on high at around 27fps, only point during the game that i lagged in was the final scene during the boat chase in the rapids.

Thanks for all the help so far :)

the 5670 is a nice card. Maybe averages about 5~10% faster then the 512MB gddr5 gt240.

It is also even more power efficient (and the gt240 is already very power efficient). My main problem with it is its price. Cheapest I ever see it is around $80. Your link is a $100 card. Not terrible but I think if you really want to save up for a GTX 460, you should spend less money.

I know the gt240 I linked has a rebate that expires before you are ready but like I said, it goes on sale a lot. Here is another one that has a rebate good till Sept 2nd:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130533

Even if that one has its price raised before you are ready to buy, it will be a few days before you see another sale on them. Saw your other thread and I don't think you should get a 1GB gt240. Either the cheapo 512MB gddr5 version or the standard 5670. You will also get DX11 with the 5670.

With 1024x768 resolution, you will be impressed by either card. I'll guess that you should average 50fps with it never dropping below 30fps with every detail maxed out and 4X AA. Maybe even better. And gtx 460 is total overkill for that resolution.

Which do you think would handle better @ 1280*1024? I'm mostly playing games that use Unreal 3, MW2, Just Cause 2 and an mid-end graphics mmo.

Also, i'm still looking into getting some info as to hybridSLI, performance wise. I haven't found much info that other people are giving regarding it. So i'm guessing it isn't as great as it seems.

They'll basically handle the same. They are in the same performance class and you probably wouldn't tell the difference between them.

gt240 ddr5 for $40 or just hold out and save up for a gtx 460 1gb.

edit: that evga gt240 is $80-$90 before rebate..u probably wont get back that $30 rebate after 3 months... so i would actually just hold out and save

the 5670 will be about 5~10% better averaged over a lot of games but it costs about double (when the gt240 is on sale). You also get DX11, eyefinity and lower power consumption. Its up to you to decide whether that is worth $40~60 more.

HybridSLI is somewhat older and it is supposed to work with specific cards. If it matters to you, I suggest you contact nvidia and ask them about it. Tell them the videocard you plan to use. Or ask them if they have a list of videocards that is known to work. My guess is that they have stopped development on it.

I have submitted over 60 rebates and got paid on every single one. Only one company gave me significant problems (Gigabyte) and in the end they still paid. EVGA is using 4myrebate for processing and my last submission (also for a gt240) was paid 4 weeks after they received the paperwork (and without the extra 10% charge for faster processing).

I'm guessing that you don't actually use rebates or are not good at following instructions.

im just saying he still needs to fork up at least $90 up front anyway. IMO would just continue saving, he's half way there to a GTX460.

but i reread everything here and i agree with you a gtx460 would be overkill at the moment.

so i would actually go with what russian said, get the 4870 for $100(AR) and just be done with it.

so he has 3 viable options:
1) buy the gt240 for $40(AR) now then save up for gtx4XX for a few months
2) skip gt240 and just save up $200(AR) for the gtx460..he seems content with his 9400GPU for now, but he will be good for at least couple years, less hassle but requires patience
3) buy the 4870 for $100(AR) now and be done with it.. but wont have dx11 for the future games

I like the GT240 at the ~40$ price, great value and will handle your resolution quite well. Could also look for a GTS250 which can be had for something around ~50$ on ocassion, but it's rare and usually part of a package deal.

I would get the 240 (Make sure it's the GDDR5 version), and then you could save for a monitor if you're interested in that. But buying a big card for that resolution is just a waste of your resources.

Here's Anand's review of the GT240, you can see how capable it is at your resolutions even in Crysis.

other options are wait for nvidia's new mid range cards. The GF106 and 108 will probably be on sale in September. Don't know how they compare to ATi cards but we will all find out soon. I would be really surprised if ATi doesn't drop prices on their mid range cards like they didn't with the high end.

5670 is a good card but I don't think its worth $100. $80 at the absolute most. 5770 should be $130 everyday price right now with occasional sales at the $100 level. We need more competition.
