i guess it means that the 8600 will actually be much better than even the high end 7 series? nice.

I wouldnt count on it.

Isnt the 8600 sporting a 128bit bus?

Not only that but the 7900GTX & 7950GX2 are still going to be around for a while longer which probably puts 8600 performance around the 7900GT/7950GT area.

both the 7600gt and 6600gt have a 128bit memory bus and they outperform the high end card of the generation before them (6800ultra for the 7600, fx 5950 for the 6600), both of which have 256bit memory busses. :Q

Yeah, memory bus width isn't everything, having a much more powerful core that can handle the shaders in modern games is more important, plus clock frequencies for memory tend to be more useful than the bus width. It's only at the higher resolutions and with AA that 128-bit falls apart.

I thought that these were already EOL... There would be no go reason to continue to produce either of those cards once the 8800GTX/GS were introduced. That's why they aren't on the list in this thread.

I can't find any news articles/press releases saying that the 7900GTX or 7950GX2 are already EOL. Either it's been buried under a lot of bad news, was EOL'd quietly or they are still being produced.
