NVIDIA 76600GT at 1680x1050 resolution...

Just curious if anyone can tell me if a 7600GT can handle 1680x1050 resolution.

I currently am running a 7600GT with a 17" LCD @ 1280x1024 resolution and it looks/works beautifully.

I am thinking of upgrading to a 22" WideScreen LCD. I'm worried that at that large of a resolution the games that I play will have to take a hit on the settings to remain playable.

Any insight that can be offered is extremely helpful.

Specs:

Dell Dimension 4700
3.0ghz HT P4
1.5gig DDR2
Audigy 2
XFX7600GT (590hz/1.6ghz)
Dell 2005FPW (1680x1050)

Everyting runs with 8xAF/0AA, max settings

Oblivion, Distant Objects/Lands on, other settings default = 1440x900 not fast, but this game runs at under 20fps OK. More importantly only very, very rare stuttering. Turning the grass to low speeds up noticeably.

Call of Duty 2 = 1680x1050 OK for me, but others may want to adjust lower (1440x900 is great)

Far Cry/Half Life 2 & Epi 1/Quake4/Doom3/Prey = everything maxed, very smooth & fast.

BTW, remember that 1440x900 has less pixels than 1280x1024 thus less stressful and widescreen to boot - just do the math!

About as fast as my laptop below. You'll be fine

CKXP: It's not overclocked, stock video card. Not sure what Brand, had the PC built through IBUYPOWER.com, which all it says is NVIDIA GeForce 7600GT 256 MB. Oh, and thanks for the welcome.

lopri: Dungeons & Dragons Online, City of Heroes & City of Villians, Battlefield 2.

Thanks for the quick responses

i used to run bf2 with a 6800 ultra @ 1600x1200, which a 7600gt is a little faster than, so i'd assume bf2 would be ok. your other 2 games have generally lower requirements so i think you'd be ok.

i actually was running eve online fine with a 6600 (i am currently upgrading to 7600gt at 1680x1050 myself) and its smooth at 4xaa + 8xaf. so yeah i think you'll be ok especially if you have one of those overclocked ones. (the one i ordered was clocked at 590/1600 or something)

7600GT is more or less equal to a 6800Ultra, sometimes faster, sometimes slower maybe.

I would say a 7600GT is fine for 10x7 for current games at 8x6 for games released after a yr or year and a half.

Games like Fear orignal you will play at 10x7 max no AA no SS

I play World of Warcraft with dual 20.1" Widescreen LCDs in 1680x1050 with the settings maxed out. Although WoW was never known to be a tough game, if I can run two WoWs at once, be in Ironforge, and play a video at the same time, I think you'll be fine 😉.

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to mention that I only have a 6800GT, so your card should be faster!

I have a 7600GT and more recently bought an Acer 22" widescreen. And tomorrow will get the X1900XT I ordered. I've always hated playing at anything other than native LCD resolution, and I've found that the 7600GT chugs too much at 1680x1050 for my tastes. Mainly in Oblivion (where I was often getting 10-15 FPS outdoors and the occasional spikes down to 5), but I notice it in FPS games as well. I did have to lower settings somewhat to get it to play comparably, so I finally gave in to a great Newegg deal and got the X1900XT. I think that should do the trick, LOL.

Yeah! i played FEAR on 1280x1024@6800Ultra without problem. All high except super-unoptimized software shadows.

I have played Fear at 12x9 MAX no SS no AA and maybe no AA, my friend finds it fine but I find it crap.

If you want a real gaming experience, don't go beyond 10x7 with a 7600GT for todays games.

I fail to see what you guys was mocking him for. If its for the fact he abbreviated 1024x768 as '10x7' then i think your been seriously pathetic.

I do agree he has come out with things in the past that give you the impression he has no clue what he is talking about, but this time it was un called for.

the good kind... obviously... I can't imagine that the 7600gt would max out any game @ 1650x1080... maybe oregon trail... but the 6800 ultra would probably be better at high res.
