NVIDIA 6800GT

Hey there guys. Christmas is coming up and well, I've been using my 6800GT for quite some time now.

I haven't OC'ed, put on a new heatsink, or tweaked around with anything else. I just wanted to see if people still have 6800GT's, especially now that the new generation cards are in stock. I think I will be keeping this 6800GT for a looooong time. Maybe in the future I'll upgrade to one of those ULi mobos that support PCIe and AGP and a 939 socket.

Well, this might've been a waste of time for some of you guys, but I just wanted to pay tribute to a great card.

For the general populace, that's still a high end card 😉

Heck, I'm still running a Ti 4400 in one of my Systems and it doesn't do too bad.

How does that card do in CoD2 and Day of Defeat:source?

Settings?

Please reply, thinking about getting one.

I have a 6800GT too. I'll be keeping it until I upgrade my computer since it's pretty much one of the fastest AGP cards I can get anyway. My S754 A64 2.5GHz doesn't seem like it's giving up anytime soon either, so I guess I'll be keeping this for a while.

CoD2 is kinda choppy at 1024x768 at high settings(no FSAA) but definitely playable. I find CoD2 even more demanding than F.E.A.R. The card runs Quake4 easily though.

Well, I guess that's very easy to see, because in B&W there is a large world with many small individual objects to render?

But the lower fps in B&W is easier to tolerate because there isn't any fast action going on unlike FPS games.

I find CoD2 more demanding than F.E.A.R though. I'm able to get 2xFSAA with F.E.A.R. but not with CoD2. xbitlabs' latest GPU review seems to support this too.

That is the way it is. I could crank FEAR settings, definitely can't with COD2.

I have had one of these for the last 18 months. I have been quite happy with it overall; it had some limitations but worked very well in general. I'm not really satisfied with its performance anymore, but my new cards came in yesterday. I will probably either sell it on ebay or put it in a second computer.

I love my 6800GT, but I will be doing a new biuldin about 6 weeks and I think thateither the 7800GT or the GTX is going to be included, what does ATI have around the corner? that I might look into also...I got time

I've had my 6800GT since a few weeks after its release & its still going strong.. OC's to Ultra speeds when gaming & plays everything I throw at it including FEAR & Quake 4 ... no COD2 yet though ... I'm debating getting either an X-2 CPU or a 7800GTX & PCIe motherboard in a few weeks myself, but this card doesn't owe me a thing, best value in a gaming card for me since my Voodoo 2 SLI rig.

I have to agree. The jump I went to from a GeForce FX 5700 Ultra to my 6800GT was astounding, LOL. Even after over a year having it, I can still play games at reasonable quality\speed, which I couldn't do even less than 6 months after I bought the 5700. I'll most likely be building another rig (hopefully) come October or November next year, but I'll probably keep my existing CPU (as it works fine as a "4100+", 2.71GHz) but just upgrade to a PCI-E board (nForce4 or if it's even around\out, nForce5) and an 8800 with 2GB RAM, to prep for Vista 😀 😉 .

If you bought a 9700Pro 3 year ago, you could still be playing modern games @ medium quality.

I've found COD2 alright max settings at 1280x960 with a 6600GT. Haven't really noticed any areas that I would consider choppy.

Bought my wife's 9700 non pro almost 3 years ago. It struggles horribly in EQ2 but i'm sure would run other games minimum-medium settings @ 800x600 or maybe 1024. It's old now that's for sure.

Lookin at getting her a 939 system with an x800gto for $440 OR maybe keep the XP/AGP system going a bit longer with a X800XT or something.

Just not sure how well a higher end agp card would perform with an AXP 1700+ processor.

Try turning on 4xAA in FEAR and report back 😉 It will chew up that 6800GT; hell, it chews up my 7800GT
Yeah, obviously. I had it at 2xFSAA because 4xFSAA was too much, but hey, at least I could use 2xFSAA. With CoD2, I couldn't even do that. 🙂

"Still" have 6800GTs? I just upgraded to a 6800GT about a month ago. Considering it's still one of the fastest AGP cards you can get (no 7800-love for AGP), and the fact I can't afford a new MB or video card every three months, the 6800GT is KING in my household of three desktop computers. I have a 6800GT, my wife has a 6600GT, and the third computer has a FX5900. We have no plans for any further upgrades in the near-future in our household, so the 6800GT will be our flagship video card for awhile here.

PC Surgeon, I know you've been waiting for the 6800GS, but if you want an upgrade now and a willing to pay a few bucks more for a few FPS more, NewEgg has an AGP 6800GT (eVGA) in stock for under $300 I do believe. Grab it while they still have it... when I bought my BFG 6800GT OC, NewEgg wasn't even carrying ANY AGP 6800GTs.

There are x800xt cards available for less than $20 more - if not the same - than the 6800gt. If I was to stick with AGP I'd take one of those over a 6800gt any day.

This card is excellent for Day of Defeat:Source. I've got it set to high settings and play it at 1680x1050 res. It's smooth as silk.

I haven't tried COD2 yet so can't comment on that game.
