Nvidia 6800GT (PCIe) says it isn't getting enough power

I just recently bought a new system and assembled it myself, but my graphics card (and eVGA 6800GT) has periodically said that it isnt recieving enough power and that is is going to lower the graphics performance.

Using nTune benchmarks, it lowers it from 357 to 301.

Now, I have checked all the cables, and made sure that the 6 pin molex connector is attached to the two 4 pin PSU connectors via the little cord it came with.

It seems to work periodically and doesn't have problems for a few days at a time, but now it seems to be having trouble.

My power supply is a Antec True 430.

I just got all of the parts about a week ago off of newegg and so if anything is malfunctioning I can still RMA it.

I have:

1 250GB Maxtor HD
1 Floppy Drive
1 NEC 3520A Burner

3500+ (90nm)
Chaintech VNF4

1 90mm side fan
2 120mm front/back fans

and the 6800 plugged into the PSU

is it safe to use it with its lowered settings, will it cause damage?

EDIT: the day I put the system together, it said the card did not have enough power to it, and when I looked in the manual I realized I needed the 6 pin connector plugged into it.

I plugged the two four pin connectors into the (2)four pin--->six pin connector and plugged that into the graphics card, and it worked.

I still have that plugged in but it is having the problem.

EDIT2: One last thing I forgot to specify that may or may not matter. The two 4 pin connectors I am using to power the graphics card are from the same line. It is kind of hard to explain. You know how there are several groups of wires and each group has several 4 pin connectors sort of growing off eachother? I am using only one of those groups of wires to power the card. (even though I have the right number of connectors, will it take two seperate groups of connectors coming out of the PSU?)

I may be wrong but there is a pci power slot for a power connection to go to, and always try to run its own straight line to the card. I only have agp but I thought I heard something about powering the pci slot up with its own connection but I could be wrong and that could only be for the 6600gt, damn.
