NVIDIA 6600GT still preferable mid-range card?

A couple of months ago I was looking at mid-range video cards ($150-$200), and at that time the best choice was clearly the 6600GT.

I am finally ready to buy. Is the 6600GT still the way to go or does ATI currently have something comperable/better on a price/performance ratio (but better than the 9800, which I already have in another computer).

Thanks!

Still the best, and the AGP model is finally a bit cheaper. Be sure to check Hot Deals as well as newegg in case a drunken leprechaun is offering cards for less than a pot o' gold.

Def still a good buy. Actually its a better buy with the price drops.

The plain Vanilla 6800 (non-ultra or non-gt) is abot the same price as the 6600gt and has better performance.

I am very happy with mine. Good price and overclocks well too. I have a 19-20% overclock from both the core and ram with a little extra cooling. Very stable.

Under $200 nothing can really touch the 6600GT, around $200, the plain old Vanallia 6800 is a better buy as it has a chance to be unlockable and performs a bit better @ stock, In reality it's prolly worth it to spend up to the $300 for something like an X800XL, it's prolly got the most performance for the buck at the moment.

Where did/can you get a vanilla 6800 (PCI-E)? They start at $300 on newegg, or did you mean the agp version?

Affirmative. I was considering the 6600GT but decided to go a bit higher with the ATI X800 XL for $100 or so more. But if I had less than $225 to spend I definitely would have gone with a 6600GT. Great features/performance for the $$$
