If it's the same one as was in the BB today, i'd try to get my money back on it (say u picked out the wrong one and it was just installed or something), go online, and buy a 9600XT for $140!

Actually he could probably get a 9800P in the FS/FT forums for $140. 🙂

The 9600XT is a POS card for the money IMO. For a little more you can get a 6600GT which will be more than twice as fast.
 
sarcasm^ well thank you all for answering my question so throughly(SP)...but if i wanted some advice about what card he should of gotten i would have asked...lastly can anyone answer my question without telling me to throw anything in the garbage?

I also believe the 5200 can be modded into a quadro but thats probaly not what his brother wants

Your only options for improving the card beyond what you baught it for is to overclock it. Nothing more can save your brother from his fate of below 30 frames with reasonable settings in the most modern, demanding games.

BFG actually sells the 5500 as 'overclocked'.
 
I overclocked my FX5200 from stock speeds of 250/400 to 312/497 by voltmodding. I don't know about that 5500 but if it is by BFG, than I think you cannot do anything with that. BFG seems to make cards that don't overclock so well, and the only cards on their line that you acn softmod are the 5900XT series and 6800's. Tell your brother save up for another card if he intends to softmod OR is a softmod enthusiast.

Re: your original question, there's possibly a quadro mod but that won't help for gaming. I can think of a few hardmods I would do to it for fun tho. 😀
