I'm posting this to try and get clarification on an issue that's been bugging me since I read it but can't test it myself as I'm away from home working for a couple of weeks. It follows on from this thread where BFG10K upgraded driver from 345.20 to 347.52, and several older DX7 games promptly broke, so far without resolution:-
Could some of you enterprising fellow Anandtechers with some older DirectX 6-8 games in your collections (ideally including Diablo 2 and No One Lives Forever 1) test them on the 347.xx drivers? Maybe include your OS, driver number & GFX card? Stuff I'm trying to figure out:-
- Is it just Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 too?
- A problem with the drivers in general or some hardware specific combination that only affects a few people?
- Any other older games affected, etc?
- Does it only affect certain cards (I believe BFG10K has a Titan, does it also affect Maxwell's too (900 series / 750Ti?))
Thanks.
the last two nVidia drivers have completed broken NOLF 1 on Windows 7. You basically get an unusable black screen.
The last WHQL driver that worked fine for me was 345.20. The one after that caused severe slowdowns when zooming through a sniper scope, and the next two drivers caused a black screen, making the game completely unusable.
I'm on 347.52 right now, and I've reported the issue to nVidia and given them a screenshot.
With newer drivers I can no longer get Diablo 2 or Warcraft 2 working in any capacity either, and I believe it's the same issue affecting all three games.
