nVidia 2D image quality

I've heard in multiple posts that the 2D image quality with nVidia chipsets isn't that good? I'm thinking of purchasing an nVidia card tomorrow but those comments worry me a bit. Right now I'm just using the crappy ass SiS530 graphics chipset that's on the motherboard but I will say that I think the 2D image quality is great (although I'm also using a very good monitor, a Sony Multiscan E400). I can't imagine nVidia's GeForce 2D quality would be worse than SiS530 would it? =\

Ah dunno against the SiS530. At 1280x1024 and above especially, the 2d quality is quite bad. It would be kind of dumb to "ruin" the excellent quality of the E400 with bad 2d from a video card. Some manufacturers like VisionTek and Elsa supposedly make cards with better 2d image quality but I have yet to really see what company makes the best 2d quality nvidia card. Or you could go the little soldering mod and have good 2d quality.

It certainly worth it 😉

NVIDIA image quality, while not the best, is respectable (especially in 3D). Plus, you get great speed and rock solid Win2K drivers.

Speaking of 2d quality, if that's what you looking for, why not get Matrox G450? By far the best 2D quality, DualHead, not the mention stable Win2K driver set 😉

I have the elsa GTS ultra and the 2d quality is superb, no different to the voodoo5500 pci in the same system. It seems that elsa are perhaps the best of the geforce boards for 2d quality, but I personally think it is still dependant on monitor type/size.

Ya as leon said if you want best 2d go with the g450, but the g450 can't play games since it has really low fps, I think the performance is actually lower than the tnt2 cards, Lol. But I have to say with my sony + g450 the 2d is VERY nice 🙂 If you are going with a gts I have to say elsa also.

Elsa and Visiontek supposedly have image quality comparable to 3dfx and ATi, its almost exactly the same card so it wont matter much which one you buy.

I did the 2d mod on my Herc. GTS Pro & the 2d now rivals that of my radeon.. It's not the 2d core, it's the rfi filters & the way that tier 2 vendors impliment them.

I also remember hearing that the RFI filters aren't opitimized by the vendors themselves because of FCC regulations... Otherwise, I'm sure everyone knew about this MOD and the manufacturers would've implemented it themselves.

So ATI & Matrox don't have this RFI filter problem because?? I know!! They are both Canadian.. Under special instructions from the Canadian Government, ATI & Matrox are out to destroy the US with harmfull RFI (Radio Frequency Interferance). Damn you Canada!

First of all, since you are running the SiS530, I am guessing you don't play much games/don't care for the fastest speed. Then the Radeon wouldn't be bad for ya, even though you are in Win2k. The drivers in Win2k are stable, just that some games aren't quite as fast as the Win9x drivers (there's a little trick you can do to make the gap smaller).

I know a couple of guys that were literally disgusted by their Geforce 2's 2d on their Sony monitors, so if you can, get a Geforce from a place where you can return the card easily, and see if you can live with the 2d. Or borrow someone's Geforce and Radeon and see if you can notice a difference.

One of my mates was told that the 2D quality of the nVidia cards was so bad in some instances that you could not read text.....hmmm...he got a GTS2 and is very happy with it - just as I have been with a GF256 and an MX2
