NVIDIA 2 for 1 Stock Split Announced Today

Yep. If you have one of their stocks now at $85, on Aug. 25th, it will turn into two with each one valued at $42.50.

a stock split doesn't do anything, it makes it appear that the stock price is lower so that more people buy it, and the top holders start dumping their shares as the stock price climbs, if i was an owner of nvidia i would get out withing 3 months, a stock split is a pump and dump

its a way of allowing more people to afford to buy the stock, when the price gets too high in the opinion of the management

A stock split is not a pump and dump - many successful companies (save for Berkshire Hathaway) split their stocks, so that it is easier for the average investor to buy. Since most stocks are bought in common lots (multiples of 100), a split in price can help the average investor in a buy.

You got 86 grand in nvidia? Nice!
(even better if you got in when it was ~ $26)

"pump and dump" is maybe applicable to sleazy companies, but i think the nvidia crowd are in it for the long haul, especially with the nforce on the horizon.

exactly, an average investor, now buys the stock driving the stock price up, his 50 shares don't mean $hit to brokers, and as nvidia heads from 40 to 60, they instruct their clients who have thousands of shares to sell, driving the stock down, stock splits are a scam to get the average investor in, so that the big investors can get an extra pop

have you ever watched cnbc, i swear its a pump and dump scam, i read a news article last week a broker on the show recommend three stocks, all major companies, and then sold them the next week after the slight boost in price, he was doing that for over a year

Sure do. 🙂 As long as I don't wake up from this dream. 😉

Just like I said I am worth 1.75 million in the "what's your net worth thread"

A stock split is not necessarily a pump and dump (although it can be). Splits do serve worthwhile purposes most of the time. Imagine what price MS would be at if it hadn't split 13 or so times in the last 15 years... MICROSOFT CORP (MSFT) last: 180942.59 change: +1308.12 (estimating based on current price * 2^13).

look at BRK,buffet wants people to know exactly how his company is doing, and not hide how overpriced his company is by cutting the price in half, they do help people buy in, but a stock split is a sign to take your profits

Simply not true. Please read all the posts prior to yours again.

Take a look at nvda's history. If you sell sold your nvda stock after the previous split you must feel stupid now.
