NV40

Hmmm

True or bs? "According to the inquirer.net, the new core will enable cards to run four times faster in Doom 3 and seven times faster in Half Life 2 then its current fastest product. In order to back-up such extravagant claims the company indicates that the NV40 will support the shader models 3.0 that it claims are in DirectX 9.0c and that the new chip will have three times the performance and eight times faster shaders than the NV35. If any of this is even remotely close to the cards actual performance then the graphics speed crown will really be up for grabs this time round. "

wow sounds like theyre going from a gf2 to a 5950... sounds too... prestigous (sp?)

Thoughts?

fvckin bullshit, who ever said anything about a direct x 9.0c?

that whole article sucks, i hate it

btw, itsn't megagames a site to get NO-CD cracks from? Yeah, I'll trust them

🙂 I must have that card and a chick with big boobs long legs. then i'll truly be happy until the next gen cards come out and a younger chick comes along.

AHHH!! I have to QUICK run out and sell my 9800XT!

Riiiiight.

Be nice if it were true though. It would certainly push the envelope of innovation.

Now they just have to get their drivers up to par and displaying stuff correctly.

OK, it's comming whether we like it or not, but I think that the best course of action for most people would be VIA's new chipset that has AGP, and PCI-E support, so that way, all you people who have 9800xt's and the like, can enjoy that card until it runs down in flames, then you'll have a board that supports PCI-E to upgrade. I know that's what i'm doin' just a matter of time.

Same here i'm getting that VIA thing with an Athlon64 for my next upgrade and putting my 9800 in it i think it will play games for a few years to come and when its time is up a PCIX card will be an easy upgrade

They can likely find one setting in one room where this is accurate 😉

and that the new chip will have three times the performance and eight times faster shaders than the NV35.

Three times the performance will likely be with 8x AA and 8x AF in a certain game at a certain location(huge bandwidth increase combined with more efficient execution of both elements). Compare the 5800Ultra using the latest drivers to the Ti4600 both running 4x AA and 8x AF and you will see an enormous performance rift, one that can ~match the above claims under very limited situations.

Eight times the shader performance will likely not be true across the board however how far off that will be I would question. There are two differences the NV40 will have that should fairly easily be able to get the performance up by 400%, one is moving from four full pixel shader units to eight, another is fixing the register limitations which could easily double performance again. What they are going to do beyond that will determine how close they get to the 8x claim. I'm certain they will be able to show numerous shaders running under shader model 2.0 and 3.0 that are in fact eight times faster on the NV40 then they are on the NV35, but a good chunk of that should be because of the advantages of running PS 3.0.

Hopefully for end users they aren't pulling a full PR based chip and focusing too much die space to features that are going to be close to useless in the boards lifetime. From a business standpoint it obviously is better to have a board with killer shaders as it sells parts, no matter how useless it has been to date. Anyway, even if everything they said was true I'm quite content at this point to hang on to my R9800Pro- currently spending most of my time playing Freelancer and running 1600x1200x32x4x16 it is silky smooth and fairly hard to think of the IQ getting much better 😀

Gotta wonder if the Iraqi information minister is in charge of Nvidias press releases.

They should actually do that. I'd buy a card from them just because they did that.

lol... i call bs too, but as ben said, they can probably find ONE thing where its true.. IE, the fan speed? 😱.... we'll see i guess... too much of an advance to be true.. cant wait till april =\
