No hope for you, fanATIc Tabb.
Why would I think a 5900 "sucks"?
1. I own no DX9 games this year, so DX9 performance on PS2.0 is kind of a moot point for me right now, isn't it? At this point, if my card exploded upon detection of a DX9 game, it wouldn't really matter to me.
2. Offering products that offer faster performance at some current games, slower at others, is generally not regarded as "sucking".

If you're actually an adult (I doubt this) I wonder what you do for a living? The engineers at nVidia put out cards that compete on the bleeding edge of the market they're in, and come up with revisions as often as twice a year.

I'd bet good money right now that you really SUCK at what you do compared to the nVidia engineers Tabb. Or are you working for a technology industry leader, shaping the industry right now? Odds are you're not, odds are you're just another seat warmer slamming your betters because you never got as far as they did.

rollo, what about future DX9 games with ps2?

I guess you are working at nvidia then?

For how long are you not going to own any DX9 games?

Uh, when end support for 3dmark. Then threaten a lawsuit. Then go back for support. Cheat on UT2k3 benchies. Use 2 Expansion slots to equal performence of a 9800 Pro. You suck.

No, I work for a software firm. My productivity has been highest for the firm at what I do (support/train/QA) for the last 3 years, so I'm somewhere between a "seatwarmer" and somebody who really makes a difference, like the nVidia engineers.
I didn't say men and women who consistently put out the first or second best product in their field suck though, did I? How about you Tabb? Are you working for a company I've heard of, inventing products I've heard of, like the nVidia engineers?

For how long are you not going to own any DX9 games?
As long as there are none out I want? It doesn't make any difference to me anyway, I have a 9800Pro in my main box.

Uh, when end support for 3dmark.
To avoid paying their exhorbitant partner fees, when smart people don't really give a fat rat's a$$ about synthetic benches anyway and don't waste their time running them?

Then threaten a lawsuit.
You'll find if you ever get beyond the deep fryer that companies protect their bottom line fairly aggressively.

Then go back for support.
You'll also see companies do things they don't necessarily want to if they perceive it to be important for sales, or part of a mutually advantageous agreement.

Cheat on UT2k3 benchies.
Do you know what advertising is? When you see the commercial that says "Ford trucks are the most powerful trucks in their class" do you think that's a blanket, true statement? Or do you think Ford engineered a benchmark that favors their truck, and came up with some liberal definitions for "powerful"?

Use 2 Expansion slots to equal performence of a 9800 Pro.
Wow. The pci slot next to the AGP is used?! The world will end with that. LOL I use one whole slot on my board for the Audigy2. Everything else is onboard, like many decent motherboards these days.

You suck.
LOL- I can see my whole "what have you done?" point hit a little too close to home.

Whats your point? It doesnt matter that nVidia cheated? Went to 3dMark/Lawsuit/Went Back? This feels so werid, but since you've actually got a place in the enginnering depot I guess I'll aplogogize for saying you suck.

Or perhaps you were out of line to say so in the beginning. This isn't a place for flaming, but rather informational posting, and more often than not, opinions based on experience. However, that doesn't mean it's ok to belittle someone on a whim.

Still trying to figure out where ATI takes the performance lead also? So I assumed you meant marketshare which isnt correct either.

Sure you can point me to some fanboy sites or some obscure benchies that have a 9800 Pro besting a 5900 Ultra. But it appears for the most part the 5900 Ultra is fast in 80% of the situations.

H|OCP does a pretty convincing job of showing that ATi is generally faster than a comparably-priced nVidia card at the high-end. Check out their latest 5900 review to see how it stacks up to a 9800P.

The point was we're all just puppets doing ATI and nVidia's work for free, by pimping one's products and trashing another.
The point was that it's easy to point at nVidia's products and say "they suck" until you think about the fact that they've actually produced the second best product in the world at what they do, and not many of us come close to that level of excellence.
The point was that most people don't understand things like the business decisions that were made with 3dmark, and many forget the only purpose of advertising is to trick buyers into buying.

I accept your apology, although I can only dream about being an engineer. Just a guy that ended up in the software business and learned on the job, degrees only got me in the door.

BTW, with the DX9 thing, ATi outperforms nVidia in PS operations, Gabe Newell is reported to have said that ATi is better with PS1.4 and 2.0 and maybe 1.1 (not totally sure though), and that ATi will be better for HL2.

Also, HL2's DX9 features are better on ATi, Tomb Raider is better on ATi with DX9 features, and 3D Mark2003 is better on ATi with DX9 features (PS2.0).

Most people have seemed to indicate nVidia cards suck at PS2.0 performance compared to ATi.

Carmack is coding an Nvidia backend because if he doesnt then it defaults to 32bit. Well it shouldnt be a surprise 32bit would be slower than 24bit. Nvidias only mistake here is not supporting the moronic 24bit standard set forth by Microsoft. Maybe in the NV40.
But I am still reserving judgement on PS performance until a full blown game comes out that actually uses PS 2.0. Right now we are basing this off 3dmark03 which has been proven to be worthless and a demo of a game.

Genx87, you cant call EVER single site that shows poor PS2 performance with nvidia a fanboi site. this has been done and redone a million times with similar results

When they use phrases like "Friends head in the sand" and "Kicking thier ass because they are using an Nvidia card" It kind of loses its credibility real fast.

Is ATI actually operating at a profit these days? They've been losing millions every quarter for years. It's a lot easier to lose less money than it is to build upon huge success and profit, so ATI exceeding revenue in years they were losing money is no big deal.

The financials I am looking at showed them breaking even 1st qtr, losing a penny the 2nd qtr, and making a penny the 3rd qtr. Actually the qtrs might be mixed up but it looks like a break even to me vs I believe ~30 cents worth of profit per share on the Nvidia side.

This is the same argument we used to make with CPUs. Problem is by the time any real games get out that will really stress PS 2.0 the high end cards of today will be the low end card of tomorrow and worthless either way. That is why you should buy your card for the near future and not hopes and dreams of 18 months from now.

You missed the fact that nV appears to be slower than ATi in both FP32 and FP16.

Anyway, Evan's already performed HL2 benchmarks, so we'll see what it (a PS2.0 title) reveals soon enough.

OK, I try to stay out of these discussions arguing about which is better, the Enterprise or a Star Destroyer. But this statement:

"Take away r3xx/rv3xx and NV has the best hardware by quite a margin."

is absurd. If you don't take into account ATIs top of the line product, then Nvidia has the best hardware? Well no sh!t sherlock. Take away Nvidias top of the line products and ATI has the best.

Sorry but that was just really, really, really dumb.

Seriously thats the most retarded thing i've ever heard on this forum

GenX, this isnt the first site to confirm poor ps2 performance. it has been documented many times from different sites
