NVDA conference call, NV35 was PERFECT FIRST SILICON, which for those in the know just does NOT happen. But in this case, NV35 has been in production since January. Chips are available NOW, and have been coming off the lines since February.

Stock up about $2 AH on the news. Can't wait to see benchmarks from Anand!

(I know this is sort of a repost, but the perfect first silicon is new news, and any topics containing this information have slid far beyond page one. It's about time video card news came back to the forefront.)

A bit dissapointing earnings (revenue down, but still beat it by a penny). Good news about NV35.

p.s. I didn't have a chance to listen to CC, did CEO mentioned anything about FX line and how well it sold? Their original target was 1.5million units.

If they can make it quiet, price it decently, and LIVES up to the performance hype, its a winner.:)

What does first perfect silicon mean? Anyways, I hope the NV35 will blow away the R350 because IMO, Nvidia makes a much better product than ATI. (Dont flame me, everyone is entitled to their own opinions)

I'm hoping it does good as well as some dirver corrections for their quality in games, because I'm neither for ATI or Nvidia, basically whichever one gives me the most performance for my price range gets my sale.

Basically their engineering samples, which normally need to go through three or four steppings, at 2-3 weeks minimum each, to become fast, reliable, and stable, worked without any steppings. A0 is their production stepping. Just doesn't happen.

So what this means for nVidia and for us as consumers is that the NV35 will likely see store shelves VERY soon after next week's announcements, because plenty of chips are already available to fill the channels.

a0 silicon is usually rife with bugs and doesn't clock well..... yield rates are also generally less then desirable..

Forgive me for being cynicle or biased or whatever but I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that this isn't true. If it were true, how come they have been having such trouble getting NV30 into the channel en masse? I mean, if they can do it with nv35 so long ago and so easily, why would they have trouble with nv30? Most of the models are STILL hit and miss to purchase.

I recommend listening to the archive of their conference call. The NV35's A0 stepping was bug-free and yielded and clocked well. This was basically sheer luck, but means the problems encountered with the NV30 aren't duplicating themselves here.

Add to that the fact that IBM's production facilities are far more up to the task than TSMC's, and you get the makings of a launch FAR better than that of NV30.

The Jan production Feb parts coming off the line dates are directly from the CC. Take it up with the SEC if you believe Hsung and co were lying, but while unbelievable in a sense (as I said, A0 silicon just doesn't perform like this), they have little reason to lie and would be easily caught in their lie soon (through the unavailability of the chip) if it is one, so it'd be kinda stupid for them to do so.

Agreed, why would Nvidia pretend to have working A0 silicon? Too easy to get caught out and it goes well against Nvidia's engineering principles.

Also, where is the conference call archived. I checked out the Nvidia site and Googled it but got nothing.

Maybe there's been so few NV30's available because they were ramping up NV35. Would make sense considering how poor a performer NV30 turned out to be. They said it would end up a limited run GPU anyway, this fits that puzzle well.

Abou the NV30 dificulty thing, it sucked so not many were made and if I remember hearing correctly, they were having trouble getting good yields. As far as cooling goes, I think the cooling system is going to be like the Quadro FX, or maybe less noisy than that even. I can't wait to get my hands on this card!!!

I'm hoping this gives ATI a good reason to lower their prices on the 9700 Pro!

kaz: Go to finance.yahoo.com, enter NVDA in the symbol search, and at the bottom above the news headlines on a yellow highlighted background is a link to the audio CC.

Or, to be a little less silly and just link you directly. LOL

I hate that argument, who says your opinion is worth anything? Is it based on anything other than fanboyism? I mean i could say that in my opinion the best cars in the world are yugos or that Mcdonalds has the finest cuine in the world does that make it true?? NO!

Opinions are fine, as long as they are based on some fact not fanboyism gibberish.

Drivers are an example of why Nvidia is better. While ATI's drivers have improved, they have not been able to release a Catalyst version that did not have a major problem with at least one popular game.

PS: I am using an 9500 Pro right now cause it was the best I could get for under $200 :)

Don't even start with drivers, N-Vidias drivers took a turn for the worse some time ago so that argument is no longer valid. There are plenty of people who can attest to refresh rate problems, infinite loop junk, poor image quality, slow system startup, multiple driver conflicts. Drivers for everything from controller cards to motherboards are constantly subject to human error, N-Vidia is no exception.

wtf are you talking about, i have a 4200 and i have no problems even with the detanator 40 series, no conflicts and image quality ownz. cant say the same for the nightmares we are having with the raddy 8500s at school.

I'm sorry but the nvidia drivers for the vid card i bought for my friend's pc are horrible ... i have the 9500PRO and the drivers are flawless (and yes i game a lot)
but ill stop there ... I don't wanna turn this into a flame war ... and i hope nvidia does well with this card.

I want to see actual benchmarks before I get excited. I bought into the hype surrounding the NV30 before its introduction, only to be thoroughly disappointed in the end.

Are you you using the drivers off the CD? You're never supposed to use them. What do you consider driver problems?

I've never had any problems with Nvidia drivers.

And 9500 Pro drivers are far from flawless, dont even make me start giving examples.

Yea I LOVE MY 9700 pRO. But I'd have to admin I've had more issues in 3 months of ati than I've had in 3 years of nvidia gf2 mx400.
