NV30 is likely not implementing full DX functions.

I'm not the least bit suprised as I've suspected something like this all along. This is also likely the reason why nVidia can't get WHQL certification. I even hear that nVidia tried to get Microsoft to relax the FP spec required for DX 9.0.

"Best driver support in the business" is a title that is moving very quickly away from nVidia.

at this point i am starting to wonder if intentionally trying to give themselves a bad name; i mean i keep thinking they are just trying to cost by on their rep but that argument started to wear thin at least a month ago.

Why are you posting it here instead of talking about it on Beyond3D?
Are you just trying to bait Rollo? I don't appreciate the mortal combat for the armchair warriors here.

ROFL yep, I can just hear it now.. "well it doesn't matter because ATI makes boards with rolling gray lines 30% of the time."

Rogo:
If you want to post links, you do it this way:

[Z= "x"]"y" [/Z]
Substitute a capital L for Z in the above, and "x" being either a copy of the url, or what you want to call your link, and "y' being your copy of the url. If you click on the "symbols" link at the bottom of the reply window, this is explained.
Hope this helps.

As far as the DX9 thing goes, to me it wouldn't be that big of an issue, I buy cards often enough that this generation likely won't be in my box when there are many DX9 titles to choose from.

I'm a NVIDIA man myself, but won't purchase the FX as of yet. I will most likely wait for NV35.

ok man wait another 6 months when nv35 will be introduced.. until then what..? u will sit with your ti4800?

Can you imagine? The hardship of only having a Ti4600 for 6 more months? He may as well quit gaming for now.

My roommate told me that the FP stuff Nvidia wants relaxed is because it's some proprietary ATI calculation they copyrighted or something so Nvidia can't use it. Since it's in the requirements for WHQL certification, this means Nvidia can't get WHQL. I have no resources to back this up, though.

How can anyone possibly still be such a fanboy and wait for another Nvidia card???
rolleye.gif

I have been using several Nvidia cards for a few years now and have a TI4200 right now, and every card was a joy to use, especially my GF2 and the TI4200. But now Ati is the clear winner in every segment. I very much liked Nvidia, but why shouldn't i go for the best card available (performance, noise, cost, visual quality)?

I don't doubt, that NV35 will be better and more competitive than NV30.

But whoever waits for NV35 just because it's Nvidia is a jerk imho.

Even if that is true or not, that has never stopped companies coming up with ways of doing something similar by using methods of reverse engineering, coming up with their own alternative system which does the same thing (maybe a touch slower), or biting the bullet and paying royalties.

If the information in that article is accurate, and say if nvidia can never attain a WHQL DX9 level for the GF FX, aren't microsoft within their rights to have them not call the card DX9 capable?

Actually I am quite pleased it has all gone to pot slightly for nvidia..... reminds me of when ATI were developing the Radeon, Microsoft shifted the VS/PS goalposts...... now nvidia are suffering a similar (not identical) problem and I hope they get the same level of criticism that ATI got handed out when it happened to them.

Whoever calls people "jerks" because of their choice of video cards : A. Needs a life B. Needs to get laid C. Needs a drink/joint/etc. Jeez. It's not up to you to decide when and why people buy VGAs. Can I go to the bathroom now, or would that make me a jerk?

LOL- don't get too pleased. They're still the only VGA chip maker that actually earns a profit other than Intel, AFAIK.

Jeepers! ATIs "superiority" can't help them get out of the red or gain market share! The buying public needs to spend more time on this bbs.....

Well, I am not overjoyed about it, just quietly satisfied that finally 'what goes around comes around'...... I have owned 3 nvidia graphics cards in my time and while I have no problem with the products, I dislike the company and how they behave. That's not to say I like ATI, but at least they dont talk crap about their competitors - think nvidia and Kyro2.

There is also a [ q ] [ /q ] function as well for quoting but you never seem to bother to use it, makes hacking through your posts somewhat of a chore. Heck you don't even use the bold or italics functions with quotes...

I get laid, drink heavily, and smoke now and then, but I still don't have a life!:brokenheart:

so I must still be qualified to call people jerks!:D

EDIT: oh yeah, I agree...

At least that you know of. You apparently aren't in sales. It's common practice to point out your product's advantages and your competitor's disadvantages. What you're referring to was an internal sales memo not meant for public consumption. That is a long time to hold a grudge for such a trivial offense.

Gee. Really? Don't be such a dumba$$, although I've seen no reason to expect better.

I was trying to HELP Rogo- I felt sorry for him capitalizing words and pasting URLs thinking they were usable links.

I meant that a person who indulged in such activities would be more relaxed, less likely to call people jerks for choosing a VGA they don't approve of.

So no one cares that the nvidia card you purchase might not be up to DX 9.0 specs?

If so why?

Thanks
