I think they are just waiting till .13m core's are easy to make by TSMC.

Who knows.............could all be, but, I'd say they will do it yet this year if it's possible, plus it's kind of strange this happens to be announced the same time the R300 9700 .15 is announced and shows to blow n'Vidias best offering away............;) Another thing to consider, if n'Vidia is having trouble getting to .13 cards with TSMC, you can probably bet ATI is also so that may mean the R300 .13 version is delayed as well. Like I said though, n'Vidia claims it will be ready before years end yet according to their official press breif so until it comes from the "horses mouth" I'd have to believe they will have it.

NV30 Out by Mid-2003:
An account of a conversation with an NVIDIA rep at Siggraph as told in the Infogrames forum.

Q- "Any time frame I can look forward to?"
A- "It shouldn't be very long, we don't like to give release dates. But it should not be too long of a wait Q3 - Q4 2002 maybe early to mid 2003".

OMG that's just lame. How vague can you be?

"But it should not be too long of a wait Q3 - Q4 2002 maybe early to mid 2003". "

Yeah so it should be out sometime within a years period. Q3 2002 - Q2 2003.

"Another thing to consider, if n'Vidia is having trouble getting to .13 cards with TSMC, you can probably bet ATI is also so that may mean the R300 .13 version is delayed as well. "

Not true. How quick did Intel come out with an .13 chip before AMD did? Just because one company is having problems doesn't mean another company will. This is just an example. The good thing is ATI has something in the meantime that blows the competition away. Apparently Nvidia doesn't have anything?

Seems this puts Nvidia well past their 6 month cycle also.

Nobody fab's like Intel, there switch to .13m was seemless, your not giving them enough credit. TSMC said themselfs that the yields are not even close to good enough to turn a profit.

But Cyrix has been making 0.13 C3 using TMSC's 0.13 process for a few months now haven't they? (I'm not sure) That would seem to indicate that the tmsc process works at least somewhat. Maybe the nv30's big die is a problem or something.

bdog231 - hence EXAMPLE. It's not about giving anyone credit. I think just cause Nvidia is having trouble, doesn't mean ATI would.

Is ATI using TSMC for their .13??

Yes.........ATI IS using TSMC and that is why the "10,000" was/is not out with the .15 "9700"...................look in some of the R300 archives........... the R300 "10,000" will hopefully make it by late Nov./Dec. ;)

I have a feeling that NVIDIA will release their newest card in Q1 of 2003. I don't think they are quite ready (From what I have gathered) for a release any sooner than that.

You can bet nVidia is, and will do anything and everything possible to beat the ATI "10000" and to get it out to counter the 9700..................if ATI gets the R300 "10000" out this year, I'd bet on nVidia getting the NV30 out as well considering.................;)

I dont see who else ATI could outsource to

unless you think ATI could go to INTEL to outsource their chips to but we all know thats never gonna happen :D

by the time ATI and NVDA get to .13 intel will be rolling out with .09 Prescotts :D

I didn't know for sure if they would be using them for the .13 or not. I don't know other silicon vendors like that, so thats why i was asking.

I guess the real question it comes to. Who gets priority over the first large quantity batches of .13 when it comes time? It seems like ATI is ready to go and Nvidia is still working on theirs? I wonder if it's first come first server or how they work that out.

nvidia has first priority at TSMC. theres a few more fabs in taiwan, notably UMC, but i don't know what they're doing.
