Apparently the $600 Hercules card has 128 Megs of DDR + VIVO functions.

Jesus....128MB? I don't even think games take advantage of the full 64mb..:(

<< Hopefully CL will produce a cheap $350 variant. >>

Yeah, real cheap! A brand new 64 meg DDR Radeon with VIVO is half that....and will play games almost as good for almost as long. That's a big price increase for a couple months worth of playability and 3.785739 FPS increase.

MGMorden:

I will say that the radeon looks to be a very nice chip, but it doesn't make sense to buy ati because nvidia is too big. Actually ATI is the biggest graphics chip company, much bigger than nvidia. They sell their low-end chips to OEMs like hotcakes.

$600 for a video card that will be outdated in 6 months is not my cup of tea.

I can get a brand new 27" Sony TV for my living room for that price, and still be enjoying it 10 years later.

I'll spend $200 tops on a video card. That's why I'm going for a 64MB VIVO Radeon.

Unless you have money to burn theres no need to buy it yet. 64megs of DDR will get you by until they drop the NV20 price down to a reasonable figure.

Ok. I was a little wrong. Apparently Ati is bigger. Nvidia seems to be growing faster though (we're talking O(2^N) here). My ESP sense :))) says not to trust Nvidia.

I will probably get a geforce 2 ultra when the geforce 3 comes out :) Unless Untamo gets his hands on some more of those Nvidia reference cards/C&L oems and sells them reasonable.

Superior quality? - Use MATROX cards.

You will erase the name nVIDIA from your mind...

$600.00 - for a video card? Get serious.

I for one, am going to buy the Geforce3 as soon as it is available. $600 may seem like quite a bit, but the card will last for at least 1.5-2 years though. Hopefully, only a couple of weeks until I have one in my hands!

At $600, no thanks...at least not yet.

I'll wait for the NV25 comes out and figure it out from there. My GeForce DDR is still delivers excellent speed, and I only paid $300 for it because I knew it was just enough at time I got it to hit the "threshold" of making some of the upcoming games a decent amount faster than "playably fast" for some time. Unless my video card loses that edge, there's other things to take care of...like MORE games!

its not overpriced, as someone has already said, most of us don't need it:p we're far from obsolete.

Very true but like I have said before ATI might sell the most amount of chips/boards.

That still doesn't make them the biggest company. A simple look at there market cap will tell you that. ATI had control of the high and low end market. Right now its trying to cling onto the low end, while NVidia is cruising along the high end (Read $$$$$$).

Its sorta like 3dfx, sure they had a 60% retail market share, but so what? They still failed in the end. Its more than just market share its about profits.
