ok after some researching, ppl are saying that having the silencer spread the as5 instead of spreading it yourself. this is supposed to give you better performance. my question is, how do you have the silencer spread the as5 on the ram and gpu w/o any of it coming out of the sides and shorting the card?

I guess you just put it on, press down, maybe jiggle it a little, lift it up and check.

Get any extra off, OR just put it on the card itself first.

Use AS5 for the GPU, that shouldn't be any risk, and use Artic Ceramic (sp) for the RAM, as the AC is non-cunductive.

On mine I spread a thin layer of Arctic Alumina on the GPU core and just put a rather generous dab of AC's silicone paste on each RAM chip. GDDR3 runs cool and really doesn't need extra cooling. ATI runs the X800 XT PE cards' RAM faster than the 6800s with bare chips.

I just thought of something. I used Arctic Silver 5 on the ramchips when I was using my NV Silencer rev5. Shortly after, a couple days later, I did get the error screen after windows loaded. My 6800GT a week later I had total video corruption.

Assuming I did a decent job applying the AS5 to the ramchips can that cause electrical interference just being on the top of the chip????

No, it can't from being on top. The only issue you can have with AS5 is connecting any leads or connectors with the grease as it is SLIGHTLY conductive. That is why most people reccomend AS Ceramique for ram and AS5 for CPU and GPU core. Personally I think you have some issues with that card. I would try to reapply and see what happens but you might be SOL as your warrenty is now void.
