Nurses (RN's, LPN's, etc)

I'm actually giving this some serious thought myself. I do not have a degree, will be 39,and my wife is almost done with grad school. I am thinking of doing going the community college route to get my associate's in nursing. Man I wish I had taken care of this when I was younger.

I've thought of doing it a number of times. Would be quite a career change for the same pay (theoretically) but would be more fulfilling. I'll have to wait a couple years to even think about it more as my GF wants to go back to school first.

Still a good topic even if it's 7 years old...

Did the OP become a nurse?

An RN can make $50/hour or more working at a hospital (we have a few RNs in the family). Most hospitals will let you work all the OT you want as well. RNs and Nurse Practitioners (Doctors of Nursing) can make a very good salary.

It's hard work, don't kid yourself. This IS medical school and will be difficult.

Would be cool to see some follow up from the OP, though I doubt we'll get it. RNs can certainly do quite well. NPs aren't necessarily DNPs (yet), though; and it ISN'T medical school.

To echo what others have said in this necro thread, nursing is a great profession for those who have the constitution and compassion for it. A great nurse is an invaluable asset.

That's why I was specific in my post to note I was speaking about NP that ARE.

I've watched three people go through it who would disagree.
