Number on the bottom of the knob of a baseball bat?

I was browsing through wooden baseball bat at Sports Authority today and I saw some heavy bats. They were 32 inches and had a number at the knob of the bat. The number of the bat that I was looking at was 4. What does this number represent? The number is carved into the knob of the bat.

Of all the bats I've ever had, the single digit on the knob corresponded to the length. If you're absolutely positive it's a 32 inch and not a 34, then I'd guess it refers to a 34 oz weight.

34oz is a heavy ass bat. All my bats are 33 and 34 inches and none of them exceed 26 oz. Then again theyre all aluminum and $100+ each........
