Number of chips on memory stick affects performance?

I am going to buy 2 512MB PC2700 SODIMM for my laptop. The one with Samsung chip has total 16 chips. The one with Nanya chip has 8 chips only. Would the number of the chip somehow affects the performance? How about heat? Less chip mean less heat?
