No one uses RAID 0 in a server, except maybe for a scratch volume. RAID 1 isn't so bad for a small server. I use RAID 1 in my Exchange server.

deal still works, but $199 + $39.07 tax + $29 = 267.07. not that hot with tax and shipping. that tax works out to be 8% of the original $500, not cool. Icouldahaddadell, almost.

K, I pulled the trigger .. just received this, and set it up last night. Have a couple questions

1. Can anyone recommend a decent graphics card with DVI output for this baby?
2. There are 3 HD slots + 2 Drive bays + 1 Floppy disk drive... But the PSU only has 4 connectors + 1 for FDD?? Go figure. So I put in a after market Flower PSU I bought a while back. Unfortunately this wasnt the smoothest swap in the world. First, its too big and wont fit! So i had to yank out the green clip for holding up the PSU, and drill a couple holes into the case to hold up the new PSU.
3. Where can I look to buy the 512 extra ram for $50 like mentioned above?

hahaha, worse than a barebone system. The only fact that I like about it is you have the option not to buy the OS, I have so many OEM WinXP discs lying around, every system I bought comes with one.

Why would you need to do graphics on the server?
Servers generally run the disk subsystem(s) and maybe administer the network, etc.

Sounds like you are talking about a workstation as opposed to the server.

Ummm, I am wondering about getting this to rob arts to exchange with the Dell Dimension 3000 deal I got in on. This has a 2.8 pent d while the Dell has a 2.4. this has 80 gig drive, the Dell 40. In the original Dimension deal there was no upgrade to 2.8, only 2.6 or so, and it was $50. Drive upgrade was maybe 20 or so. So, the question would be, how much would this server bring on Ebay if it had a 2.4 processor and a 40 gig drive???? I checked and there are none listed, but there is a motherboard with a buy it now price of somewhere around $170 or so. Of course, I could price it cheap and then charge $90 shipping like some do. Decisions, decisions😀

I figured this out when I noticed $62 tax on a $500 system, and at 6% tax, it should be half of that, but with the $499 discount it added tax for it made it $62!!!

Because that is how coupons work. You pay sales tax on the full price of the item, then your grand total is adjusted by the amount of the coupon.

BTW...they shouldn't be allowed to call this a server...it isn't. I wouldn't even pay $200 with free shipping and free sales tax for this.
