It's only expensive in USA because of nannies envrionuts here. Same reason intels Ottelli says it costs 1 billion more just to open a FAB here and he won't be doing it anymore. In China they have over 150 nukes even France they have over 50. USA will get left behind as usual.

The Japanese reactors in questions are very old designs. The new designs are safer.

No, they aren't "very old designs". They are designs from the same era as the safe designs, but the cheaper option was deliberately chosen. The almighty buck (yen) wins again.

Guess which ones we'd be building in 10 years if this disaster didn'thappen.

So you're opposed to "environuts" wanting the safer plants that won't release radiation without massive intervention and backup systems like the Fukushima plants did?

France is a good example of how nuclear power can be successful, but you really shouldn't use China as an example to debunk so-called "environuts." Remember how the air in Beijing was so polluted that they were worried about the health of athletes during the Olympics?

For the 1st time in my life, my thoughts are coalescing to solar and wind. If more power is necessary ... invent a new way of making use of what is available as in improve the process. At least until anti-matter generators are invented.

Anti-matter is energy storage, not for energy generation.

Anti-matter is bullshit. It's the most expensive substance on earth to make and lasts mere fractions of a second. It's perhaps second only to perpetual motion as an energy storage device or source. I'd sooner believe someone discovered zero point energy.

Sorry, clicked a link and responded without realizing I was resurrecting a dead thread. Nothing to see, please move on.

you're saying a 50 year old reactor design is the same as a modern GenIII+ design?

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I will never forget an evening spent at a small art gallery in the lower east side of NYC in the late 80s..

The photographer that evening just returned from an orphanage outside of a nameless town in the area affected by Chernobyl..The caption beneath a photo of a extremely disfigured child read like a horror story. The child had never known happiness, joy, or even peace...he lived-if you could call it living- in a constant state of terror. To even think about what I saw in those pictures reduces my wife and I to tears....

some things are just not worth it....nuclear weapons and energy come at too high a cost...

Is my response emotional?

yes....

An irrational, emotional response, not grounded in a solid understanding of the facts.

Nuclear is not too expensive; everything else is too cheap.

Oh, Bull Shit!

There is not one good reason for any electrical power in this nation to be produced by fossil fuel.

This nation ought have a minimum of 1,000 nuclear reactors.

Thorium Reactor

....'nuff said.

yep, enough reactors to produce hydrogen for all the cars. shut down coal/gas plants. what would the carbon footprint of the US be then?

how cheap would power be? how many jobs would that and building a new national power grid create?

Who has a working thorium reactor?

China, India and Russia....as far as I have been able to learn, but check it out for yourself, i.e., always check my work.

You want people to follow behind you and check any claims you make? lol. How about you prove your statement with facts.

What are you talking, the current 4 permits in the USA closest to being finalized were based on the new designs before the disaster ever happened. Additionally those new designs just about got done being finalized. Also almost all the plants around the world are being built using new designs which were NOT available decades ago, you ignorant tool.

You live in a strange fantasy world.

or China has 13 reactors....... (building/groundbreaking 28, 80 planned in addition)
USA has 104 reactors.

We won't be passed by China until around 2050, assuming we don't build any more plants.

I don't believe anything you post, why would you believe anything I post?

Good Lord, Man, this is the internet. Besides that, there is no, not one, reliable source. I keep hoping there would be, but so far, I have not found one.

yes....

And? Coal does more damage than nuclear, why aren't you shutting all of them down as well?

People like you live in constant fear and it overrides your logic. You're far too sensitive to the rare catastrophic event and it causes you to ignore the more deadly constant dangers. You're just like Republicans who start expensive, deadly wars based on a single terrorist attack when there are far more effective ways to save American lives.
