Got a shipping notification on my first unit (pre-order). Still no word on even pre-ordering the Razer Core though.

Same here!

I think we should know by the end of next week about the shipping status of the Core. :)

What M2(s) are you planning to use? I am going to re-use my current 512GB 850 until the 1TB 950pro is available in 3Q and will add that for 1,5TB...

Pair of 512gb Samsungs in RAID 0 to test for speed, also testing Windows 7. This would be a great little modular engineering workstation if I can get 7 working on it (Intel already has drivers posted; I know you have to patch the 7 installer to get it to work with USB 3.0 & NVMe drives). A surprisingly large number of engineering apps run fantastic on gaming cards, which is awesome because you can get a 6-gig 980 Ti for $650 & fit it in a Razer Core enclosure.

Although they did just announce a 24-gig Quadro M6000 :sneaky:

Sounds like a great setup! I am really tempted to get a 950 now, but I really want a 1TB drive and be done with it...

Ditto. I think Intel has a 1TB NVMe out, but it's not nearly as fast as the Samsungs are, and I'd much rather have a Samsung 1TB because of the speed

Awesome. Takeaways so far:

1. "The unique thermal design means that the unit is very quiet even when being pushed to the limit." That's GREAT news, as the BRIX Pro & BRIX Gaming computers can get pretty dang noisy. Also: "Right now, we are only offering Skull Canyon as a full solution so no 3rd party cases at the moment. this is driven by the need to manage the cooling solution very precisely." But at least you can swap lids, which is cool.

2. "Yes - we can actually display out to up to three displays at 4K" = 1x HDMI 2.0 (4k @ 60Hz); 1x MiniDP 1.2 (4K @ 60Hz); 1x DP 1.2 (via Type-C)

3. List of 80+ tested games (and growing) with the Iris Pro 580: (I am curious to test CAD out with the 580; I've had good luck with CAD viewers on the Iris Pro & even basic 3D CAD design too)

https://gameplay.intel.com/Hardware...i7-6770HQ Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.50 GHz

4. "I can't divulge too much unpublished roadmap information, but I can tell you that you will be seeing more Thunderbolt 3 on Intel NUCs in the future." That's good news. Glad to see Thunderbolt finally getting some action!

5. "We do intend to continue with these high performing NUCs (assuming you guys all buy one, of course!) with future generations. We will have to wait to see whether they look the same as Skull Canyon or we do something else even cooler!" Also good news, that this won't be a one-off specialty run. Curious to see what Gigabyte's answer to this will be...

6. "Yes - it can be powered on from power off using the IR." Nice for HTPC usage!

7. Neat site for NUC accessories:

http://www.gorite.com/

8. "Mini STX remains a focus for Intel and I know that there will be some announcements at the upcoming IDF from board developers about their plans for the form factor, so stay tuned!" Woot woot!

10. One answer I really liked: "Yes, the 6th gen NUCs have been receiving some negative reviews, and rightfully so. Fortunately, we have resolved the issue with a BIOS update and all of the products being built now have the fix in place and as long as you update the BIOS on a unit that you might purchase, you will be fine. Skull Canyon does not have this same issue." #1, doing an AMA is awesome, and #2, admitting your flaws instead of doing some BS PR spin on the glitches is awesome. Props to Intel for this answer.

Great summary.

The Intel reps on the thread were fantastic. They answered a LOT of the questions (both of mine within about 5 minutes) and were very honest. Loved the information.

From what I can tell, a CPU commonly typically lasts for 2 GPU generations. Despite the expense of the Razer Core (fingers crossed that other vendors will come out with much cheaper options, $99 ideally), I think it's a great idea to stuff your PC into a mini box, because if you slap an i7, 32 gigs of RAM ($119), and a 512gb NVMe SSD (2,400 MB/s) in there, you're really not going to need to upgrade for at least two generations of CPU platforms...but you'll want to pop in a new GPU at least once during the system's usable life (plus, we've really hit kind of a plateau with quad-core...the top chip is still capped at 4ghz).

If it was more cost-effective, I'd jump on one of these for my VR rig at home. Still waffling between buliding a 380T rig or just saving up for a GTX980 laptop...

Definitely agree. PCIe 4.0 would be the likely next upgrade from this NUC. In the interim, the cpu/ram/m2 drives would be more than sufficient.

Newegg has charged me, but they haven't packaged me up yet. My memory, storage and os are just sitting here waiting.

Does anyone have one in hand yet? If so can you post benchmarks of the Iris Pro 580 iGPU??

What do you want, Furmark, 3DMark? (if so, what version) I'll be starting out with Win10 & then attempting Win7 on my spare test drive.

Did a quick CB 11.5 run. 7.59 MT results, or about on-par with a 77w 3770K CPU. Not bad at all!

CPU ran at a solid 3.2ghz during the test with all cores engaged and didn't see any thermal throttling below the max boost.

Can you run some GPU tests?

3DMark Firestrike graphics score: 1826 (about 1/2 that of a 750)

3DMark 11: Graphics score 3225 (about 66% of 750)

Not too bad considering the driver is pretty new for the 580 and a total CPU/GPU TDP of 45w. :)

Dell is smaller than I expected. It looks smaller than their standard pizza box; how many disks can it hold ? The pizza box can basically hold one but I squeeze a second one in place of the cd.

How did this compare to the gpu in the brix iris pro ? Also how hot does it get; the brix tends to run at a steady 75C.
