Nub Mac Questions

I just got my Imac last week.

On my PC, I kept my (100% legal) mp3 files in C:\audio.

On the Mac, I was thinking about putting them in /Audio, but I don't know if this is a good idea.

One good thing about Windows, is that the only place files were typically installed was in C:\program files. With the Mac, I'm not so sure since I'm new to it. I don't want to make a directory that's going to get overwritten or conflict with applications or be a bad idea for other unforeseen reasons!

Also, I don't want to keep it within my user folder, because that's private and off limits. I want the Audio folder to remain above this directory.

Making a folder at the root level for your audio files will be just fine. Programs install to the Applications folder as well as the Library.

Yes, why use /Audio when they provide /Users/user/Music for you? iTunes will default there just like iPhoto will default to /Users/user/Pictures, and Front Row will look for your video files in /Users/user/Movies.

You know where downloads from Safari go? /Users/user/downloads. Apps go to /Applications, though you can put them into you own Application folder, but there isn't too much point. The User space on OS X is fairly well defined for you, though there is little harm in putting things where you want. Just don't go mucking about in /Library or /System and you should be ok.

Heck, on my MacBook, some of my music is in /Users/enoch/Music and the rest is on my desktop, a windows box. You can do the same.
