Nub error on gross vehicle weight vs curb weight

I've been shopping new cars, and was more that a little amazed by pic 16 of this autotrader ad.

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/...ard=false&rdpage=thumb

The G35 that everyone here seems to love (I still may buy one) tips the scales at 4300 fat ass lbs, thats with the VQ35 the jap fanbois jiz all over topping out at 293 hp for a 3.5L engine.

Numbers are actually pretty sad compared to the Camaro, the 3.0L V6 "only" weighs 4100 lbs, and gets 306 hp.

Too bad my 6'4" just will not fit in either the camaro or challenger. I am currently kinda stuck on a G or maybe 745 bimmer.

wow, i definitely didn't know the G35 was *that* heavy.

i'd say a pontiac G8 for you, but pontiac is dead *cries* 🙁

I drove by a new Camaro when I was driving my '02. All I can say is that the driver's head must have been 6-8 inches higher than mine. The car is definitely larger.

You're confusing Gross Vehicle Weight with shipping weight and curb weight. Actual curb weight is probably some 800-1000# less than GVWR.

Camaro: 3780lbs
G37: 3581lbs

huh? the g35/37 seem to both out HP the camaro and at the same time be lighter than it by 200lbs.
the vq35 has won the Ward's 10 Best Engine's award (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ward%27s_10_Best_Engines)

aw its too bad GM's bankrupt and sucked @ selling cars. on a brighter note. only the "fittest" survive in the auto industry.

I don't know why anyone would even try to compare the two. Two entirely different cars with a HUGE price difference. One is luxury and one isn't but hey it's you. It makes you feel good to compare $50k Japanese cars to $20k American cars.

Camaro LS 304HP $22K
G37 $36k

If you want to get closer in price:

Camaro SS 426HP $30K

its amazing how you'd blame me for comparing the two, but not the OP. nice rationality. he forced the comparison of the two leaving price out of the equation.

Um, dude...the guy who posted this was completely wrong. Louis was simply pointing out his mistake...and it was a huge one.

And he made a bigger one. GM does consider the 370z a competitor to the Camaro though.

OP, have fun bashing Japanese car. lol.

Camaro GVWR seems about 4550 fat ass lbs, 250 lb heavier. Makes sense since Curb weight is about that much heavier than G. Challenger's GVWR is about 5000 (!) ridiculously fat ass lbs. What should I say more?

And who cares. G itself is so successful model, one of few that really keep up against 3 series (And I am E90 owner who will replace it with G in 6 months), and was able to bring Infiniti (+ Nissan) brand image as a fine maker. Best of all, it's from a brand that's not going under. What about Camaro/Challenger? What did they do for GM/Chrysler?

This isn't Louie, I am actually cross shopping used G35's vs the NEW camaro. It dosent have to make sense, but the price is around the same and want a 2 door RWD manual trans car. I do plan to go check out an 01 M5 thats listed at $20k too, and did actually like the 02 745Li I saw while in Virgina beach this weekend, even though its definitely an old man's car.

dont buy a camaro, they're going to break down on you... dont you think to yourself why GM is going out of business?

go w/ the luxury sporty G Coupe.

and how exactly do you have proof of this? the car is brand new and is using two proven motors.

that aside, i would be hesitant buying from GM till the BK business is sorted out. and as the OP said, he didn't d fit.

no doubt. GM can't possibly have fixed any quality issues so certainly a new GM car is going to be less reliable and have more issues than a used nissan.

I'd steer clear of any 7-8 year old BMW. Those cars will be huge money pits, especially the 7-series.

So is curb weight heavier or lighter than actual weight? I'm not sure what you guys are getting at. 😕

Gross weight!=Curb weight/actual weight

OP used gross weight, which I think is the most weight you can put on the sucker. Not the actual mass of the car.
