I live in the States but have family in the UK. Currently I pay approx $20 per tape to get video (family camcorder stuff) converted to UK (PAL) format. I was wondering if there might be a way to do this conversion using my PC?
You dont tell if you are using Digital video or analog, but anyway you can use program like premiere or ulead video 6.0 to convert to any formats you like.
The computer is not going to help you too much since in the end you have to record on a tape that is capable to record in PAL (you can not output PAL into NTSC VCR).
VCRs that are capable to operate in both NTSC and PAL are available commercially (of course, they are more expensive then regular VCRs.)
The place to look at this entire staff is the commercial Photo and Video stores in New York City like B&H Photo.
If your tapes are not too long you can encode the video to MPeg Video. Burn the mpeg file on CDR, and send the CD to the UK, doing it this way you bypass the PAL NTSC issue.
