NTSB successfully trolls KTVU?

KTVU (Bay Area channel 2, a Fox affiliate) appears to have actually reported this:

And the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=VqjlhtKIToo#at=15

And, of course, the apology that claims the NTSB confirmed the names: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=L84TJ80l6Qg

It's like the network affiliates just grab crap from wherever they can find it, and air it without even looking at it once. How could you not see that?

It almost sounds like it could be a morning radio show prank, where the hosts call KTVU claiming they're from the NTSB.

everyone has to know and give permission that they be put on the air otherwise the station can have its license be taken away. therefore, radio station 'pranks' are just skits.

It appears that a summer intern for the NTSB was responsible for the hijinks. Way to get black listed from ever getting federal employment.

"The National Transportation Safety Board apologizes for inaccurate and offensive names that were mistakenly confirmed as those of the pilots of Asiana flight 214, which crashed at San Francisco International Airport on July 6. Earlier today, in response to an inquiry from a media outlet, a summer intern acted outside the scope of his authority when he erroneously confirmed the names of the flight crew on the aircraft. The NTSB does not release or confirm the names of crew members or people involved in transportation accidents to the media. We work hard to ensure that only appropriate factual information regarding an investigation is released and deeply regret today’s incident. Appropriate actions will be taken to ensure that such a serious error is not repeated."

Whats funny is, the correct names of the crew were reported on Wednesday. Why are you calling the NTSB to confirm when the AP already confirmed the names two days ago? The intern at the NTSB needs fired and so do the people responsible for airing it.

The NTSB is a tiny government department. There's a good chance most, if not the entire NTSB, know exactly who the prick is. He'll be lucky if he's just blacklisted.

"Seemed like a good idea at the time. My buddy bet me $20 that if I resubmitted these humorous/offensive names of the pilots, no one would be dumb enough to broadcast them"

Yep, good luck with your future employment - what and idiot.

And congrats to the lunch crew at KTVU for your ineptitude.

LOL, KTVU just apologized again, 10:12 PM PDT.

Taking full responsibility for poor reporting.

Good for them.

NTSB intern confirmed names that KTVU asked about?

Or NTSB intern gave the names to KTVU?

Where did KTVU get the names?

From Sum Gui.

Their NTSB confirmation was from a summer intern. I'm assuming that, basically, they called up the NTSB and asked the first guy that answered 'Was We Too Low flying that 777?!'

To which some college kid answered 'holy fuck you're stupid.'

'Ho Lee Fuk??? Okay, we'll add him, too! Thanks! *click*'
