ntoskrnl corrupt or missing ?

Yo guys and gals, i have been trying to overclock my AMD athlon 64 3200+ winnchester to 2.5 gig from 2.3, how ever when i place the multiplier to x10, fsb to 250 (my ram is ocz pc4000 500mhz dual channel 1gig) and the Hyper-transport multiplier to x4, i get this wierd message 'ntoskrnl corrupt or missing please reinstall this file' (or along the lines of) just before windows boots up. Any Ideas on this is greatly appreicated and thanks in advance legion. 🙂
 
i get that from time to time as well... as best as I can figure, RAM may be able to corrupt your HDD. Simply insert your XP CD and repair the install.
 
welcome to overclocking!!! i find that a spare drive with a ghost image is a 'must have' accessory to go with all my overclocking adventures... make sure that it's not plugged in when u r toying...

whenever u push things can break...

practice safe overclocking, always wear a quality HSF...
 
I have seen this with a bad stick of ram or too high of settings, but usually more with a bad stick....I have successfully in the past moved that ram out of the slot and placed a new one in and was fine...no reinstall was necessary...You may not be this lucky....Try it first to avoid the reinstalll...
 
I have tightened my timings too far and haven't had Windows XP boot because of it. I assume this is the same kind of thing. Just because it POSTs doesn't mean it still has enough horsepower to boot. Write down your overclocking settings on a piece of paper and default out your BIOS, or at least the FSB. Try booting Windows now. If it doesn't succeed then your Windows was destroyed in the process, so you need to reinstall. I recommend keeping your memory a little lower (than your O/C peak) before you try booting. Or, if you're like me, I have Linux on here and I try that before I try booting Windows 😉
 
yo guys thanks for the insite, but i have had this error a few times as well but only when overclocking and windows boots up normally on any lower setting than the one stated above. its wierd because i have ocz gold which are produced with overclocking in mind as far as i know. So if im running them at 500 mhz surely thats stock for them as it is their stated speed.
