NTLDR is missing

I had XOSL booting both Win2000 and FreeDOS. I installed Windows XP pro. XP loaded its boot load which was only capable of seeing Win2000 and itself. I restored XOSL and now when I boot to XP I get the error:
"NTLDR is missing, Press any key to restart"

I have used the recovery console to copy the ntldr and ntdetect files to the E: where XP is installed. 'E:' is a primary partition.

Can I fix this, do i need to reinstall XP, if i reinstall will I get the same error?
any tips or help is welcome, thanks
