What is the current drive, how old is it?
If you want a replacement I would probably go with that seagate 120g. I also recall the 36gb raptor not being so great?

that isn't a harddrive issue~ it is something a lot of people have gotten (includine me) and I have no idea what causes it, though microsoft details the issue in their help database so you may want to check there

I have encounter with the exact same error a few times...

It has to do with the boot up sequence in BIOS... try to play with that if you will can shed some light

YMMV

holy crap, you guys were right.

though the boot sequence was correct, the hard drive priority setting was set to my 160gb drive that i used for media/download storage. i switched it to my old 80gb, and it worked fine. oh man, and this whole time i was worried about a dead drive. SOOOO not the case.

now only if i hadn't formatted and forgot to backup my doom save files. :(

oh well, gettin that 36gb raptor. who wants this one? 60 bucks shipped!
