NTFS help...

Ahh the joys of a system install.

So I've had it with Win2000 (lasted all of 2 weeks) and it's time to back to Win98.

However, I want to put Win98 of the HD that had Win2000 on it. Unfortunately, I did Win2000 in NTFS, and my 98 boot disk won't wipe the drive properly.

And FREE programs that I can d/l than can properly repartion and format the drive??

Win98 fdisk should be able to delete the partition just fine. What kind of error message are you getting?

Yup, you have to use fdisk to delete the NTFS partition and repartition your disk with fat32.
You can also use 3rd party partition software such as partition magic.

Goodluck...

For some reason, fdisk was only showing the 160gb as have 25gb available to wipe. Found out that the mobo (shuttle ak38n) can't support more than 137, so I used the included promise card, zero'd out the drive and now all is happy with that.

Now if I could only find an OS that would work properly

Hate to disappoint you but if you're looking for an OS that works, keep looking. Win 98 ain't it. 🙁

It's working for me better than win2000 (I think the display driver was the issue)

ahhhhh,.........no

I hardly blame you after a bad experience with 2K. I let XP Home sit on a shelf for almost a year. Then I bought a new HD and unplugged my 98SE system disk totally from the pc. Did a clean install with NTFS.... 6 months later I formatted the old system disk (after I saved those things that I wasn't sure that I had backups of) and have never looked back. I run a 1gig celeron with 384meg, 4 HDs, 3 opticals, network w/router. I won't say there havdn't been some issues, but NOTHING like 98SE. luck....
