NTBackup and Windows is just stupid

I check the report log, find this

"Error: The device reported an error on a request to read data from media.
Error reported: Bad data.
There may be a hardware or media problem.
Please check the system event log for relevant failures."

ok, I then check the event log and see this

"End Verify of 'E:' 'Failed'
Consult the backup report for more detail."

OK, so the device you're backing up to is bad or the E: drive isn't online. Or you have McAfee 4.x, which can cause similar errors. Hmmm.... If you run MSCONFIG, disable the non-MS stuff, and redo the test, does this still happen?

the point is that the report log points to the event viewer and the event viewer points to the report log

the reason for the error is that another backup scedule was fscking up the backup, is working fine now
