NT Server + RAID + SCSI = nogo... why?

I'm attempting to install NT Server on a machine with 2 SCSI drives an Adaptec RAID Controller and another Adaptec SCSI Controller for the tape backup.

During installation, it asks for additional mass storage hardware, i use the disks with the drivers on them, finds it adds both controllers to the list of detected hardware, hit enter and "No hard drives detected"

I have both drives in a RAID-1 array now... did I miss something somewhere?

stock NT4 without service packs?

if so, the hard drives are probably too big for it to recognize. (the service packs fix that, but you cant' install them until after you've installed NT, but you cant' install NT because it doesnt have the service packs to support the drive......)

eventualy I gave up and installed 2K

Don't hook up the drives, just the controllers.
Install the drivers for controllers, apply lastest service pack and then install the drives.

If it still doesn't work, use Win2k 🙂

gah what a load of crap!

Yeah its stock NT4, and its a clean install. So i guess that leaves me SOL for the time being.

Did you use the Adaptec config utility and create an array before you started the install? If no logical drives are defined it wont detect anything to install on.

Yeah, it detects the drives now. Apparently I had to cancel the automatic detection before installing the drivers. Whatever.

And yes I did setup the array before I started the install. Why did I just read something on MS's site that said I had to disable the mirror array before installing?
