I have one machine still running NT 4 server and saw a note about WINS vulnerability.
I looked up the info about it and don't know what will happen to the machine if I remove WINS.
I also don't know how to remove it safely.

Here's a picture of my nework bindings Click Here

I have updated the machine with all the latest Windows Updates but dont know if this vulnerabiity was addressed.

Thanks!

Hee is info about the attack (News.com)

Your server has a WINS client (like a DNS client)...very necessary for it to work under NT4. The real question is, is this server have the WINS SERVER service installed/running?

If so, then it could be vulnerable. According to Microsoft there is a patch for Windows NT 4 SP6a machines.

If no, then you are not vulnerable.

Cool, that should have been covered when I updated everything on Dec 30, 2004 using Windows Update.
I am not experiencing any trouble, but I like to keep up with security. 😉
