nSvclp.exe Application Error on Startup

Whenever I boot up my newly built computer, once I get to the login screen, an error message pops up. Here is the message below:

Title: nSvclp.exe Application Error

Message: The Instruction "0x1000cc64" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The Memory could not be "read".

Does anyone know how to fix this? I believe the app has something to do with my nVidia firewall.

I am not able to find anything on the file name nSvclp.exe.

A search for similar file names returns the following information:

NVCPL.DLL is part of the NVidia Display driver and a re-install of the drivers would probably fix it if that was the file name in the error.

NVCPL.EXE is usually a virus known as W32.SpyBot.S Worm.

I would recommend running a full virus and spyware scan on your system (after making sure both are updated of course). Run them in Safe Mode with no networking support if the applications you are using will allow you to do so.

edit: I let my fingers do the walking, and they walked all over the wrong keys. :p

I'm getting this error too. Could you tell me exactly what you did in reinstalling the display drivers? I tried it with no luck.

Hello!
I am also receiving this error message and I lose all sound when I do. I have removed and reinstalled the Video Drivers to no avail. I have removed the Video Drivers and used the Driver Cleaner as recommended. However, when I use the driver cleaner there is never anything in the recycle bin no matter WHAT nvidia devices I select.

I have totally removed the Video Drivers, deleted all files, including the .INF files so they Windows can not reinstall them. I then booted with a generic video driver. The windows sound starts then stops with the same error. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the audio drivers as well.

I am at a loss - can anyone suggest anything else? Can you post the version numbers of what is working for you?

I am running the following:

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core processor 4200+ 2.21 GHz
2 GB RAM
Windows XP Home version 2002 SP2

Realtek AC'97 Audio
Driver Provider: Realtek Semiconductor Corp
Driver Date 11/17/2004
Driver Version 5.10.0.5750
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility

nVidia GeForce 7800 GTX
Driver Provider: NVIDIA
Driver Date: 5/25/2005
Driver Version: 7.7.5.0
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility

I have also tries the latest nVidia drivers: 7.7.7.7 with no luck.

I have also got this error. With some testing I have found that it is vid driver related.
I have a clone ATI Radeon X800XL. Had my comp running clear for a week after trying driver after driver. The drivers would always come with somekind of control panel with them , so I did a custom install and just installed the driver and that is it. Solved it for me.
To clear the old driver I did the following.
Start > Control Panel > Add Remove Programs.
Remove the driver and any other program or control panel related to your vid card.
Don't allow a reboot until you do the above, and the next instructions below.
Once that is complete , in control panel click on System > Hardware > Device Manager.
Click on Display Adapters , then right click on any display drivers and uninstall button is the last thing. Now you can reboot and install the new driver.
Remember not to let it do it's own install ( do custom ) or it will install more than drivers again.
Couple months from last post but still might help. :)

Thanks - I too was able to resolve this by getting the proper video driver installed. I used one off the web rather than the one that came with the video card itself.

Thanks guys,

I built my brother a computer and got this error message as well. After googling it, Anandtech was the only thing that was helpful! Thanks.

Ditto for me. I had a x800 GTO - latest drivers from web seemed to have solved it.
