How Congress Blocked Research on Gun Violence
The ugly campaign by the NRA to shut down studies at the CDC.

By Moosie:Hey if this gun ownership thing is so valuable to society why does the NRA lobby (successfully) to hide gun violence related statistics?

I mean, whats to hide?

Meep meep.

To reduce funding to the Centers for Disease Control because they're spending it on obviously biased non-scientific fishing expeditions isn't "hiding" statistics. Sorry, I don't buy your premise.

Lol where do you come up with this shit?

I'd like you to now provide a link showing how the studies/research are non scientific and biased.

“It was mostly political junk science,” retorts Dr. Miguel Faria Jr., a former professor of neurosurgery and editor of the Journal of the Medical Association of Georgia. The CDC, he said, started from the premise “that guns were bad, had no benefits, that guns and bullets were pathogens that needed to be eradicated or at least severely restricted from the civilian population.”

It isn't a one side is always right issue, it never is. Stop pretending that it is.

Lol

You post a link further backing up the claim that the NRA has been working to stop gun research and you think a quote by a pro 2nd amendment doctor proves that the CDC's research was unscientific and biased? I love your double standards there.

Would you like to try again?

He is also one of the guys that testified to congress about the CDC's studies and recommended they be defunded.

I'm always surprised that leftist/Democrats get so angry that an organization like the NRA which is privately funded does what the people that join the organization pay it to do.

It seems that rightist/Republicans get angry when a federal agency such as the Center for Disease Control engage in highly partisan advocacy pseudoscience against the interests of 1/2 the people that are paying for it.

You're right, rightist/Republicans never get angry when the ACLU, which is privately funded, does what the people that join the organization pay it to do.

Doubling down on your claim I see.

Keep trying, something is bound to pop up, maybe it's in the Benghazi thread.

Why do you try to derail every thread you post in? If you have a grudge or something to say then say it in the appropriate thread or make a complaint to the moderators.

I never said they didn't. The anti-gun nuts are angry because they can't use a federal agency for partisan purposes and it's putting a crimp in their style.

The CDC's formal mission:

Collaborating to create the expertise, information, and tools that people and communities need to protect their health – through health promotion, prevention of disease, injury and disability, and preparedness for new health threats. CDC seeks to accomplish its mission by working with partners throughout the nation and the world to

  • monitor health,
  • detect and investigate health problems,
  • conduct research to enhance prevention,
  • develop and advocate sound public health policies,
  • implement prevention strategies,
  • promote healthy behaviors,
  • foster safe and healthful environments,
  • provide leadership and training.

Looking into the incidence of gun violence strikes me as being well within those bounds.

You left out this part of the stated CDC mission which is exactly why their funding was reduced.

Accountability — As diligent stewards of public trust and public funds, we act decisively and compassionately in service to the people’s health. We ensure that our research and our services are based on sound science and meet real public needs to achieve our public health goals.

If by derail you mean call you out on your bullshit then yes I do do that because, while you like to spread misinformation, I like to correct that information so that a real discussion can be had.

You like to argue your points based on fud. You can't have a serious discussion on any topic if facts aren't presented or if they aren't presented accurately. So while you may think it's derailing a topic it's actually bringing focus to it.

Stop presenting your bullshit as fact and I'll have no reason to post.

Now that we have that out of the way, will you be providing any facts proving your claim that the CDC uses pseudoscience and produces biased results or was this post just another distraction? Or will you continue stating your bullshit as fact?

Trust the Gun Nuts but dont trust the Government.

Any day of the week....you're trust is misguided. I'll take citizens of the US any day as most gun owners are responsible citizens and are trying to protect their RIGHTS. This is no different than first or fourth or and amendment being attacked. If that's OK with you keep on trusting your government....I won't.

You know what? If you have that kind "idiot" reaction to people in real life you'll probably have a few loose teeth from time to time.

I'm a military retired veteran and am still associated with the military with my current job. I think it's safe to say I have and do have an affiliation with Uncle Sam. I think you may have taken my opinion out of context. I'm simply stating that citizens should be leery and even skeptical of their government. This is especially true when something requires "immediate action" or is implemented for our own protection.

Settle down...

I still have all my teeth, most people don't actually say out loud stupid comments.

As to your point; your issue isn't with the government, is the stupid people in this country. It doesn't matter what side they are on or who they work for, stupidity does not descriminate, which brings me to my point, choosing citizens or government gets you the same shit. The difference, of course, is that there is the possibility of holding the government accountable.

What? If you mean to criticize all of the people who would rather just follow the media of their parties choice and be more concerned with watching TV reality shows then being concerned about their rights then I think I understand what you just...said.
