I never said that. However my point stands. Biden nor gun grabbing politicians dont care about the victims.. They are using this terrible situation to push an old platform. One that will not prevent the next school shooting.

Totally agree.

Like I said in another post, let's see what would happen if a rep president made even a brush-by comment about tightening regulations on abortion. Anyone remember 'war on women'?

Uhmm, basically every Republican president and presidential nominee says them all the time. Additionally, they do it.

This is crazy....

And when that happens, the left squeals like stuck pigs. Pot, meet kettle.

The reactions are not remotely comparable. This isn't Obama actually doing anything, it was a statement that they might do some nebulous thing in the future. This was responded to with pure, batshit lunacy. I am unaware of any democrats threatening to go down in a hail of gunfire because say...Bush said hr didn't like abortion.

More false equivalence.

Hey Monovillage, when are you going to barricade yourself in your parents basement to protect your guns from President Obama?

Both of my parents have been dead for over 20 years, I wish i could hang out in their basement just so I could see them again, if only for awhile.

When will someone think of the real victims in all of these massacres? Poor guns, always getting picked on.

I have to say I didn't anticipate the sheer avalanche of crazy that even mild hun control efforts has unleashed. There really is no nuttier lobby in America than the gun nuts.

Pretty funny Freudian slip there Eskimo.

As a voting block 5 million is sizeable. Other organizations are dwarfed by that number.

That's part of the reason the NRA is so effective, it's not just the money, it's because there's so many people that are ready, willing and able to support them politically. This may become the tipping point in the 2014 Senate elections in this country.

A) 4.2 million members in a country of 315 million means a core policy of this country is controlled by-at most-1.3% of the population (that's assuming all NRA members are eligible voters, vote and vote the NRA party line).

B) I wonder how much of the boost of the NRA membership is due to things like their recent campaigns essentially making membership free, like this one:

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2293393

C) Interesting factual analysis on the Rachel Maddow show a few nights ago. She analyzed the effectiveness of various right wing lobby groups during the 2012 election. The group with the worst record of all was the NRA with less than one percent return on their investment (0.89% IIRC), meaning that the NRA spent its funds on the winning side of a race less than one percent of the time.

I think this country has had a sea change in public opinion about uncontrolled and unfettered distribution of military style weapons. The NRA is about to be left in the dust (assuming the public can force Bohner to allow any bill to come to a vote).

The NRA has been one of the most effective political organizations over the decades, a small blip in 2012 isn't a reason to think they've become ineffective. Part of that can be attributed to Obama and his supporters lying about his gun control efforts until after the elections.

C) Maddow? You have to be smoking something, are you from Co. or Wa.?

You heard of a shovel?

Too personal and WAY out of line. Take a little time off to reconsider your approach.

That the support of low information members is soft, as when an issue gains more prominence their support can shift.

LOL at you, speculating about NRA membership. Excellent tactic though, take a group you vehemently oppose and imply members are conflicted, as if 100% must be lockstep. I belong to to several organizations or associations and do you think I'm on board with 100% of what they say and do? Does anyone? Considering myself and the dozen gun enthusiasts I know are not part of the NRA (and I'm sure many others on P&N have the same experience), it takes a pretty committed person to actually join and I think it's safe to say the NRA crowd is a pretty tight group. Regardless, the actual number of people who support the NRA's general cause is much, much larger than their membership.

Excellent point, I allowed my membership in the NRA to lapse in the 90's. I was thinking this might be a good time to at least send a contribution if not join up again.

I'm not a member. I'm not big on belonging to any big organizations.

I'm thinking about I though, and I've donated on every single purchase I've made the last two months.

I guess there is no harm, its just my name and address, not like it's a database of actual guns that can be compromised. More info about my guns could probably be found on my bank statements, so yeah Ill probably commit.
