Should I continue to upgrade my comp to as mentioned in: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=27&threadid=1156587
9800XT, Corsair, blah blah blah

Or should I wait till around the time Hl2, and Doom III are making the gaming scene? Are there any other games that will be coming out that might require this much power? Heh, I dont know If i should get my computer now, or wait 2-3 months and change my comp setup to modern hardware at that time.

Well At the moment I kinda stopped playing video games that much. Ive been concentrating on school more than anything. But I think SWG might suck me back in, or I might get accepted in Beta I for WoW, for me its really random. I think if i found my Bf1942 CD #1, Id be gaming a whole lot more. Its such a hard choice, on one hand I want to have my computer now, to play around with and have fun. On the other I think I should wait, and see what happens.

I say wait until you need it. If you are going to start playing some more games soon, then upgrade it. If you're not going to be playing games for sure until HL2/D3 come out, wait til then. You will be able to get better hardware for the same price, or the same hardware cheaper :)

Wait for the games to come out unless you eally want the stuff now. The 9800XT's price could drop dramatically, and who knows, but there might be new ATI and Nvidia cards out by that time.

Heh...I love it that so many sheep ran out and upgraded for a game that isn't going to be out for another 6 months. Muahaha.

Answer to your question: do whatever the heck you want. If you have money to burn, then go ahead and upgrade every 3 months to keep up with the latest games. If not, then the sensible thing to do would be to wait until the game at least hits the shelves so that you can actually see if you need to upgrade

As long as your game is installed, just buy Road to Rome, or the new expansion, Secret weapons, and you will be able to play without the original BF1942 CD.

It isnt even installed, thats the problem. (Bf1942)

As for my system specs, I seriously doubt my laptop will be able to handle Hl2 to playing standards. On SWG its the most annoying sh*t ever, it laggs like 80% of the time, (not my connection), and my fps generally range from 5-10 FPS in a crowded area, but when i tried it on my friend he had the cap EVERYWHERE, and he has like a Amd 2200+ with a 9500 or 9600 radeon.

My system specs right now are:
2.0 Gigz, Pentium 4, 533FSB
512 RAM (not sure what kind)
Geforce 4 Mx440 (64 meg)
Dont rem the rest.

Toshiba 5200 Is my laptop. Its a great laptop, and is awesome for mobile gaming, and has a ton of features, but I want a gaming comp. :(

How are they sheep? I don't think anyone would have guessed that someone would steal the source code and cause valve to completely rewrite the netcode part so we don't have cheaters everywhere...

btw- I say wait....by April I'd assume the next gen of cards will be out that should give a good boost for HL2 framerates and we'll have some newer athlons :D

Im giving this deep thought. There are other games coming out, but then again I dont want to get it, and in 3-4 months have to upgrade again (well not have to) Those athlons sure sound tempting.

As for the new generation of GPU's those better come out around April, I dont want to have to wait till like Summer to upgrade. But I think i'l end up upgrading after exams :Feb. If I get 90s% I bet my dad will get me a pimpin computer :)

Wait for the games to come out mate, there will be brand new Generation Cards from both nVidia and ATi, and the follow-up to XGI's V8 Volari by that time next year.

Well worth the wait. If you want to upgrade anything at the moment you could always go 64-bit with an Athlon 64 and some nice fast ram.

I built my computer a little more than year ago with a 9700 Pro, and I never would have guessed this much time down the road there wouldn't be a big reason to upgrade.

That being said, I would just wait. Can't find a better reason to upgrade than Half-Life and Doom

EB Games is back to listing HL2 on 11-27

Read that the April date may be for the European version.

I would consider still getting the 9800XT. You do get HL2 for free (when it comes out) so that is a pretty sweet deal...I upgraded in anticipation of HL2, but I dont regret it. There is other good stuff coming out soon. Max Payne 2 and Call of Duty both look awesome.

I am *totally* for an economic up-drift, more spending happening, more companies making money, thus more people having jobs, therefore:

We should all get AMDs64 *now* and also 9800XTs - don't wait 'til the prices drop ! Get it NOW !!!

When 64Bit Windows comes out and HL2 and other stuff...well then it's time to upgrade again anyway....maybe an AMD128 and a Radeon10000 ? :)
