Kinda lacks functionality, not very efficient at all if you ask me. In fact its the opposite, sacrificing functionality for looks makes it a very inefficient desktop, requires extra work to get at what you're trying to do.

Not really. All I need right now is some kind of quicklaunch bar, although it's not really necessary.

As for Litestep, I've tried some time ago, but my experiences with it so far have been horrible. It's unstable, buggy, hard to customize etc. I'm not even going to try it.

I hate those type of explorer replacements. I like my desktop and the convenience

i have a similar desktop, no icons, no taskbar.

i am not any less productive, and possibly i am a little more productive.

winkey+R to run almost anything, if i want the start button, there is a speck in the corner of my screen that is always on top that i can click for the start button, but it takes up no room, to switch task, i click a speck in another corner, pops up a menu to select window to switch to. and i use a very tiny skin w/ the program sysmeter to monitor my stuff, also for a clock.

just because you don't have icons or a start bar doesnt mean you can't do anything. the run box is the best thing MS ever invented!!!

also, i really hate desktop icons. what is the point? you cant even get to them unless you minimize and/or move all of your windows, and even then they dont do anything above and beyond what you can do with better methods.

:confused:

be inventive folks!

See, I just can't get into that. I love desktop icons. If I need anything, I just click show desktop, and boom, instantly there is my desktop and my wonderful icons. Or, if it isn't there, it is probably on the start menu. I'm sorry, but using the run box to open PowerPoint or Internet Explorer is just not funtional to me. I use the run box run to open regedit, cmd, or any other quick things, but its not going to be a icon or start menu replacement for me.

To each their own, I guess.

Actually, the best thing MS ever invented is the task-bar-mounted Address bar.
Seriously.....right-click the task bar and go in toolbars and add "address"
Oh sure. It SAYS "address" but it's really just an in-line version of "run." punch in any command line from there and it fires up. Definitely faster than going all the way to the start menu and clicking, and someimtes faster than ctrl-esc, r.

I love it.

run box is fast as hell, winkey+R, its right there, i dont have to peck at some address bar with my mouse, keyboard tends to be alot faster

oh and everytime i wanna run a program, i dont type e:\program files\program\program.exe, yes that would suck goat balls.

i put short-named shortcuts to all the progs i use in a folder, then add that folder to the path

nero=nero
bitchx=bx
aim=aim
photoshop=ps
internet explorer=ie
my playlist=a

see, in most cases just a couple letters and it's up and running

THAT is efficient!!!!

To you, pressing winkey+r and then typing something is efficient. To me, making like one or two clicks is efficient. I put everything I use frequently on the quick launch bar. Boom, one click and I'm off. Like I said, to each their own.

If you took the time to do it BingBong's way, you'd find that it is more efficient once you give yourself the time to get accustomed to it. In general, it's faster to learn all the kbd shortcuts you can than to point and click.
Case-in-point is how absurdly fast you can work between a number of different windows using alt-tab and all the other shortcuts. I once got a record store on a temp agency's computer proficiency test b/c it gave an efficiency bonus when you used the kbd instead of the mouse!

I'm sorry, its just not for me. For me, there is no way in hell it is faster to press winkey+r, and type something to open a program, than it is to click one button on the quick launch bar. Anything I use daily goes on the quick launch bar where it is one click away. Anything I don't use frequently stays on the start menu, because I'm not worried about accessing it quickly anyway. I do use keyboard shortcuts, but for stuff like cut and paste, printing, saving, etc.

Here's mine.
All of the programs I use frequently are on the left side of the screen. My usable desktop area stops 18 pixels before the left side of the screen so that those icons are always available. Right click brings up the start menu with access to My Computer and Control Panel. Winamp controls are built into the main console.

Holy cow, I just added that and it's great. That address bar is awesome. Thanks for the tip.:D

Well, Winkey + R works just as well, so i guess I can use either one.
