Elderly twin brothers, who had lived in Raahe all their lives, were killed just over two hours apart on Tuesday in a bizarre and tragic chain of events. The twins were involved in nearly identical traffic accidents. The first accident occurred at around 9.35 a.m., when one of the 70-year-old twins bicycled onto a highway, directly in front of a truck. The man was killed instantly, and had evidently not seen the truck due to snow.
At 11.47 a.m., the Raahe police were informed of a second accident on the same road, around one kilometre from the scene of the first accident. The other twin had bicycled along the edge of the highway, and had suddenly turned to cross the road just as a long line of cars had passed him.
He was hit by the last vehicle in the line, a truck, and was killed instantly.
According to the police, the man who died later could not have yet received word of his brother's death. At the time of the latter accident, the police were still in the process of determining the identity of the first victim. >>
