I ususally don't pay attention to stuff like this. But Forbes listed its most powerful 100 women. And Oprah Winfrey didn't make the top 10 not even the top 50. Now I dislike Oprah quite a bit, but she is without question easily one of the top 10 if not even in the top 5 of most influential and powerful women on this planet. And as I looked at the list they even listed Barbara Walters ahead of her. And I decided to take a peak at the poll of who you would most want to be. Guess who leads the poll and it ain't even close....

I actually wrote to Forbes about that list, complaining that Johanna Quandt is not even in the Top 100!

Johanna Quandt basically owns BMW and has a few billion in net worth.

She has a lot of money, her own production company and an influential talk show. That is nothing compared to the power that the women at the top of that list have. Political power is A LOT more important and influential than what you can attain in the entertainment business.

Maybe, but what kind of political power does Barbara Walters have.........I forgot about the chick who owns BMW. One thing is for sure it does make you stop and think about those juiced up ladies. :)

Yes. That Queen of Jordan is quite the piece of ass.

Classy - I agree that Barbara Walters shoulndt be on the list but as for Oprah not making the top 10? Um, er do you see whose on the top ten? Sorry, a talk show host shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as heads of state, Senators and Justices.

It's probably intentional -- Oprah wields so much power that Forbes is afraid of retribution if the true scope of her power becomes public knowledge. Oprah could mobilize the housewives of America in under an hour. Take that Condoleeza Rice!

It would be really funny if someone registered queenrania.com as a porn site, much like whitehouse.gov and .com...

And obviously if Oprah doesn't have enough willpower to keep a few pounds off, she doesn't have much real power :p

I'd say Oprah actually has considerable political power, although she holds no elected office. She can presumably get any politician in America, including the President, on the phone, and effectively has her own PAC (all the Oprah-loving ladies who buy the Oprah Book Club selections), who are enthusiastically willing to do her bidding. Moreover, anyone with her level of control over the presentation of information in America has a great deal of inherent power. Without reviewing the entire list, it would certainly surprise me if Oprah were not in fact one of the world's 50 most powerful women.

When I looked at that list that is the idea I came away with. Who can influence a large mass of people to follow what they believe. No doubt Oprah is a giant in that category. Can you imagine if Oprah came out and said vote for such and such candidate. Your talking millions of women would do just as she says. I don't even like the chick, but here in the US she has no equal and she's liked around the globe too. I guess when you talk powerful women, I just don't see how Oprah doesn't come up in the conversation within a half dozen or so names.

i think it's because they we're talking about *international* influence. in the US, to American, she might be in the top 5, but not for the rest of the world. i don't know how many countries carry Oprah's show, but apparently not too many.

Yeah, but if Oprah actively endorsed one candidate there would be a backlash of people who would feel she was being to partisan. The net effect would still be in Oprah's favor, but not as strong as one would think.
