Why does Dell ship systems with their optical mice with their standard mousepad? It has a small reflective "cube" pattern all over that makes the pointer jump all over the screen. :|

I don't usually use a mousepad with my optical mice, but I'm setting up some systems for a client and they're all complaining about it...

A mouse pad will prevent unwanted wear and tear on the desk that it's sitting on.

Heh I've found that a $1.99 OfficeMax mouse pad is the best for optical mice.

I know what is point was. I agree that it is quite stupid to ship a reflective mouse pad with an optical mouse. I didn't argue it. His pointed seemed ridiculously simple and effective. Should I have said "yeah, man, that sucks!" instead of suggest why people with optical mice actually use their mouse pads?

I took it as though they are complaining about the jumping of the cursor. Sure, mousepad usage is great, but it is pointless with a reflective pad like the Dell one.

It's probably something with the sensor of the dell-branded optical mice, because I have 5 users complaining about it.

I've never had a problem with that mousepad, with the MS Intellimouse Optical mice.

What happens is the pointer moves in a jagged line, following the outline of the cubes on the mousepad. I've recreated it on all the machines I've set up today. :|

i've got the same problem, i never realized it was the mousepad that was doing it. thanks for the tip, i'm gonna toss the mousepad now!
