That is a sweet configuration. It should do nicely as a budget video editing rig. He can always set up some sort of RAID/SCSI setup later when he gets another allowance from the wife. 🙂

My friend's machine (which I built):

Thunderbird 1GHz
Abit KT7 regular
2x 128MB Infineon PC133
Generic ATX 250watt midtower (he couldn't get a full tower- not enough space)
IBM 75GXP 45GB
Plextor 12/10/32a IDE burner
Toshiba 12/40 CD/DVD
Generic Floppy
ATI Radeon AIW
Creative Sound Blaster Live!Value
Cirrus Logic 56K modem (it doesn't the job until he gets RoadRunner cable)

🙂

That's a pretty decent system for video editing... you really don't need SCSI nowadays unless you're capturing uncompressed video, IDE drives are fast enough to handle the load. RAM is important though... 🙂 It's pretty close to the one I just built my Dad for Christmas:

MSI K7TPro2A
Duron 600@900
SuperOrb
256MB Kingmax PC133
Maxtor 20GB DM+45 HD
Acer 50X CD
Asus Geforce2 MX 32MB
Enlight 7237
Mitsumi floppy

She's not cracking RC5 just yet. I won't even be starting on the build until Monday as I have a few up ahead of him. But, the cow WILL be dancing during burn-in, and hopefully he'll let me leave it on there. About 50% of customers do.🙂

<< Damn.... imgaine all the divx rips you could fit on there. >>

who gives a rats ass about divx! just rip the whole goddamned DVD uncompressed and leave it on there!

Exactly as what I was thinking with the processor, memory, video, and motherboard. 🙂

And exactly what I want. (insert Homer aaaauuuuggghhhh)

C'mon Russ send that system my way 😉

I'll give you a uhh...... BRAND NEW NICKLE for it!! 🙂

Correct if I'm wrong, but I remember a post some time ago about some videoediting or picture editing software that didn't work so well with rc-5. The client caused a significant drop in performance 🙁 Check that out before persuaing him to keep the cow, you don't want him being unhappy about the performance with that kind of a system 😉

Russ, I would to inquire about possible stability testing for all your high ends builds. I promise to strss them to the max. 😉

Now If he only had a monitor so he could see how well it runs.
😉🙂

Only kidding,
Probably got a Massive 21" at least, since funds don't seem to be a factor..
